A Polite Request

A Polite Request

Hugo Lloris, Erik Lamela, Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho and Emmanuel Adebayor, Michael Dawson, Vlad Chiriches, Younes Kaboul and Kyle Walker are all out, and Jan Vertonghen is of course,  suspended.

There will be a good few youngsters in tonight’s game. Some, little more than apprentices.

These youngbloods are just that. And not to be readily confused with the fully fledged parasites we know and love, stealing tens of thousands of pounds each week for a living.

So do you think we might give these yoofs a teensy break? Would that be agreeable? Come what may? I think it would.

Whatever mess we’re in (and we is in a mess) these chaps are innocents. They’re players with careers ahead of them. Damning developing players on a stage as big as this wouldn’t just be utterly pointless, it could actually hurt them.

If you are insistent upon calling out some kid and telling him he’s awful, all I ask is that you do so somewhere else. Not a lot to ask.

Say what you like about Wikipedia, occasionally they get it spot on:

“Timothy Alan “Tim” Sherwood (born 6 February 1969) is an English former professional footballer who is CURRENTLY the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.”

    • Harry Hotspur March 20, 2014 at 2:20 pm

      Very good.

      Sums it up.

Btw, been watching some LVG pressers. What an ego! Does he really know what he is in for at WHL? I’m beginning to think there is a permanent black cloud over N17.

      • JaySpurs March 20, 2014 at 2:34 pm

He won’t be coming so you won’t have to worry about that.
He said he wants to win the title in England – The Spurs set-up is not one that ties in with that plan…

        • Hot_Spur March 20, 2014 at 4:29 pm

It could be if a manager of his calibre is given time left to it without Levy’s interference.

  • onedavemackay March 20, 2014 at 2:02 pm

    You’re a kid and you’re awful

    but I like you

  • DAVID March 20, 2014 at 1:47 pm

Bookies have Benfica at 8/13 to win tonight.

Assuming they put a strong team out and want to win, sounds like money for old rope when you look at our squad.

  • realfan? March 20, 2014 at 1:45 pm

This ‘they’re playing for their futures’ quote that has popped out of Da Mouf for a second time really fakin’ infuriates me.

Just who is that veiled threat supposed to scare into a fantastic performance?

All of our top quality know that another great club will snap them up in a heartbeat, so who’s left?

Making Naughton sh1t his shorts ain’t gonna save our season or your job, you gilet-hurling muppet!

    • FELIXtheDOG March 20, 2014 at 1:50 pm

According to Jung, the shadow, in being instinctive and irrational, is prone to psychological projection, in which a perceived personal inferiority is recognised as a perceived moral deficiency in someone else. Jung writes that if these projections remain hidden, “The projection-making factor (the Shadow archetype) then has a free hand and can realize its object–if it has one–or bring about some other situation characteristic of its power.” [4] These projections insulate and harm individuals by acting as a constantly thickening veil of illusion between the ego and the real world.

The THICKENING – there we have it

Nice reference, I’m a fan of Jung’s thinking..

  • FELIXtheDOG March 20, 2014 at 1:37 pm

Come 7.45pm we can all take a huge sigh of relief as we hear the loud thud of Spurs hitting the very bottom of the pit that the club has dug for itself.

    Lets all hope so.

Coz if we ain’t hit the bottom now the only thing left will be the sound of the mouf planning for next season. God help us all.

  • Y-Word Army March 20, 2014 at 1:31 pm

I agree with this and it seems that most do too, but it seems that the same obvious logic isn’t often used when talking about Bentaleb purely because Timmy brought him through.

    • Paulb March 20, 2014 at 1:37 pm

I understand that Bentaleb was booed on Sunday. That’s disgraceful, he’s a promising young player and he doesn’t pick himself. Just how much more damage can Tim do before the end of the season? His treatment of Soldado is scandalous.

It’s the complete arrogance of the man I don’t get.
He’s achieved nothing in football management – absolute zero.
He shows Levy up every time he opens his mouth – how can he possibly have a career at Spurs in any capacity after the end of the season?

mong the players linked with a summer move to Tottenham is Dnipro and Ukraine international Yevhen Konoplyanka and Levy is understood to have already held discussions regarding the 24 year old moving to White Hart Lane.

But Sherwood is lukewarm over the idea of the winger arriving in north London ahead of next season – another indication he will not allow decisions over new players to be made for him.

“Not at the moment,” the Tottenham boss added. “He showed some nice touches but there are a lot of players around with nice touches.”

It’s an utterly pointless match (Other than the final, show me a Europa match that isn’t?)
That laughable squad is just feeding more misery and ammo to an already incensed fanbase baying for blood.
The only glimmer of hope is that, the tie already won, Benfica can’t really be bothered and spare us a pasting.
    Seems unlikely…
We’ve already had the gilet chucked down the tunnel. How does the man beat that?
Set it alight in front of Jesus chap and the native fans, just for a laugh, like?

Though it’s a long shot, surely tonight’s game is the very last chance of saving our season. That’s why I have no idea why Lloris is being rested for Southampton, with a few more of our walking wounded expected to be miraculously back for that game too. I think it sucks.

  • ronwol196061 March 20, 2014 at 12:28 pm

News Now says that Tim Sherwood is planning for next season,I only hope its somewhere else.

  • ronwol196061 March 20, 2014 at 12:25 pm

    Tony Hancock’s already been lowered

Well then it fits with our lot doesnt it

  • Sao Paulo Spurs March 20, 2014 at 11:25 am

Great post and yes all fans who attend this evening should get fully behind whoever pulls that shirt on. That should happen in every game … but hey! Interesting to hear Tim’s comments about new players coming in and the recruitment policy in the past. I think it’s clear that some players were signed without AVB’s knowledge or authorisation. Damien Comolli was on TalkSport this morning and said some interesting things about what the Spurs board will be looking at in the summer when deciding if they want to continue with Tim. He thinks league position is not the most important factor and whether the team is behind him and style of play might be the deciding factors. I think Comolli has a better insight than most as to how the board works but if that’s true Tim hasn’t got a hope in hell of staying on. We will be lucky to finish 5th, our style of play is haphazard and the players are certainly not behind him. I’m actually tired of his press conferences about players playing for their futures. It’s the final push and if we are going to salvage something from this season he needs every member of that squad motivated and ready for action. If I was told I was playing for my future of at Spurs i’d be scared of what that future is! No champions league football, a tactically naïve manager, a ruthless sack happy director and some of the most boo-happy and fickle fans in the league.
I’d certainly be telling my agent to tout my services elsewhere..

  • ronwol196061 March 20, 2014 at 10:58 am

Our coaching staff is a joke. From the inability to break through in the box,to the ridiculous amount of injuries. They have no idea what they are doing and Tim is not only rotating,he reminds me of a Tony Hancock Half Hour where he needed this last game as a draw to win the pools and one team was 2-0 up at half time and so he wore a Crombie coat went into the dressing room and said he was the new owner and put the little winger in goal and changed all the others around and tried to even it up but they got killed. It was made at a time when Tottenham was at its best so not sure who we are these days. We could hire Tony Hancock I suppose

    • 61-Spurs-Nut March 20, 2014 at 11:07 am

      Tony Hancock’s already been lowered

  • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:32 am

  • ronwol196061 March 20, 2014 at 10:24 am

Here is a young kid that was deemed awful and was said of he ran around like a headless chicken and we just threw him away….clever

    • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:29 am

Tim threw him away to raise his price, now when he’s there for everyone to see, we can get 7-9 mil for him. DL at his best. why keep a good footballer when you can make money of em ?

      • ronwol196061 March 20, 2014 at 10:33 am

Creative midfielders are rare. Holtby had shown glimpses of being able to read games. He is the type of player than you can build a team around as he definately has vision.Between the ridiculous managing of AVB and the fact that Sherwood can only see Benteleb in front of his face, you had Holtby shifted off to the sides.
These are all bad 2 bit actors

  • UnkleKev March 20, 2014 at 10:11 am

Sadly I think it’s a nigh-on certainty that Sigurdsson will be playing.

    • 61-Spurs-Nut March 20, 2014 at 10:13 am

    • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:14 am

It is, isn’t it.. lookign at the squad i posted, i had to laugh, Bentaleb, Rosre and Zeki Fry are now to be considered seasoned veterans… my word, can it get any worse… don’t answer that please

  • realfan? March 20, 2014 at 10:07 am

Just for balance, Surewould has said that he won’t throw any of the kids on unless it’s absolutely necessary…which tells me that he is also expecting a bit of a pasting

    • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:11 am

Well, he’s just setting up the stage then, I would say it has now become necessary, seeing as our traveling squad is fit for a 5 a side game.

  • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:06 am

Any which way you manage to concoct a line-up out of this , it aint pretty, here’s my go:

    Big Brad

    Kyle Nau——–Zeki fry——–Velijkovic———-Rose

Bentaleb———Sandro———— (One of ‘Em kids )

    Lemon Eriksen

    Solitary Bobby

I challenge any of you, what’s your first XI ?

    • 61-Spurs-Nut March 20, 2014 at 10:32 am

Right now Brentford FC. I used to live in Braemar Road.

    • Hot_Spur March 20, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Why not Townsend instead of “one of ’em kids”??

  • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 10:02 am

    The Squad then:

Friedel, Archer, McGee, Naughton, A McQueen, Fryers, Rose, Ball, Ogilvie, Sandro, Chadli, Veljkovic, Eriksen, Winks, Sigurdsson, Bentaleb, Onomah, Lennon, Townsend, Kane, Soldado

8 of ’em will play their first game for Spurs if called up, May Greaves have mercy on their souls.

    • UnkleKev March 20, 2014 at 10:07 am

      From the Daily Express website:

The kids set to be thrown in at the deep end against Benfica:

Jordan Archer (goalkeeper, 20): Scotland Under-21s international, who spent a loan spell with Wycombe last season. Joined the club’s academy ranks in 2009.

Luke McGee (goalkeeper, 18): Made more appearances for Spurs’ Under-18s side than any other player last season, featuring 19 times in league action.

Alexander McQueen (defender, 18): A speedy right-back capable of playing at centre-half.

Milos Veljkovic (defender, 18): The Switzerland-born Serbia Under-19s international is highly-rated, with the ability to play in defence and midfield.

Dominic Ball (defender, 18): The centre-back is a Northern Ireland youth international, who has featured for the Under-21s.

Connor Ogilvie (defender, 18): An England youth international, he can play at centre-back and left-back.

Harry Winks (midfielder, 18): A versatile midfielder who won rave reviews with Spurs’ Under-18s last season.

Joshua Onomah (midfielder, 16): Central attacking midfielder from Enfield, who has represented at England Under-17s level.

  • Jimmy Sidewinder March 20, 2014 at 9:47 am

  • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 9:44 am

Totally agree, might as well send this to Timothy as well, we don’t know these lads, but reason tells me that some of them will sustain heavy damage simply by being played in this game. I hope Tim understnads this.

whether this is good news or bad is up to you, for me, it only serves to cement what I know in me heart of hearts, not that i keeps it to meself, I despise Timmy.

100% agree…but i bet some will vent their anger on them

    • Paulb March 20, 2014 at 9:25 am

I was 2 loyalty points off getting a ticket for Benfica. If I had got a ticket it would be a nice day in Lisbon and my anger would be vented at Sherwood not the players. In a must win game he picked Kane instead of Bobby. Apart from Dnipro (assisted by Jan getting their chap sent off) Tim has lost 4 out 5 cup games. And he still thinks he should be in charge next year. If he is, my membership and 45 years of following Spurs is going to retire to the settee.

      • YidinExile March 20, 2014 at 9:54 am

indeed he is now on course to lose 4 consecutive games, no mean feat that. Will this season have the decency and end already, please…..

  • Ossierules March 20, 2014 at 9:07 am

Agree with that sentiment and good luck to them. I have to question just how ‘crocked’ some of those players are though. I know the game is well beyond us, Benfica were a class act last week at the Lane, but it just feels the desire, team spirit and appetite has gone. I suppose that spirit comes from our illustrious manager. This season can’t end soon enough and for the love of God Dimmy please shut up.

  • Paulb March 20, 2014 at 9:03 am

Absolutely. The players have taken enough flak from the numpty in charge. Just 8 more Sherwood press interviews to cringe through and it is season over.

  • realfan? March 20, 2014 at 8:52 am
