Get Holtby

Get Holtby

Picture 63

Good morning.

And as a wise man used to frequently say, ‘Get on with it!‘ In actual fact that man was Derek Griffiths in the seminal kids cartoon show, Film Fun.

Adebayor is off to to the African Cup of Nations and as per my previous blog it’s my belief that this is an essentially bad thing. I hear Steffen when he says that we need ‘upper lips of stiffness’ and we’ve achieved the bulk of what we have achieved sans the old Togalese, but what if he come back injured? Or riddled with bullet holes?

The press are saying that Lewis Holtby would only cost £1.m to ship in early. Steffen said of the boy:

He can play behind the striker, on the wings, he can play centre of midfield and he already has a lot of experience,”

So let’s get him in. Why wait?

Well a good number of you may say that there’s no panic at all. We have Siggy, we have er… no end of options. But this is no more than ‘hoping’. Siggy has so far made one full appearance in which he came close to doing what we need him to and this due to Bale being banned.

Don’t get me wrong. I like him. I believe he will come good. But please don’t tell me he’s been remotely influential this season. He hasn’t played. Something isn’t right with him as he can’t seem to secure more than cameo appearances. No, if we are to press on then we need to ship in a player that can hopefully add what we’re clearly missing. There are no guarantees Holtby will transform us while the ACN is on, but there is a cast iron guarantee that Adebayor won’t.

And I’ll finish on this this. To those who poo poo the ACN, that it only means a few games: perhaps ask an adult what happens at the end of virtually every season? We stare at the few games remaining desperately trying to calculate if we can get enough points in the bag to land a coveted spot.

Let’s stop fannying about and get on with it!

  1. Agreed, there is no reason to delay. He offers cover for the flanks and attacking midfield and could facilitate Livermore/Huddlestone being loaned/sold. We may even make a few bob!

Hopefully the rumours surrounding Damaio are true as I think a classy CF is top priority to ensure we capitalise on the plethora of chances we continue to create. An injury to Defoe would leave only Dempsey as an outlet and although he is showing signs of improvement, he is better utlilised on the left or behind a target man.

P.S – How does one join this forum officially? Followed it for a few years so probably rude not to get involved?

  2. Totally agree with you. What is your thoughts on the Younes belhanda in talks doing the rounds?.Looks good but where (if it happened)would all this talent fit in?.

    • Hi Bones, I rate Belhanda – very technical and capable of a goal or two. Perhaps inconsistency is his main issue. I think Holtby will join in June if Belhanda signs now as there isn’t really a space for both. That said, if we can shift Jenas and Bentley in addition to Huddlestone and Livermore, then Holtby and Belhanda would be great additions.

I’m guessing Belhanda would be used as the most attacking of three CM’s, in front of Sandro and Dembele. Holtby plays the same position, but can play deeper and also operate on the flanks.

      • Is Belhanda not going to Fenerbache then ?

        • That’s according to Yusuf in the Kebab shop last night, and he serves a cracking kebab.

        • I dont get this whole where would Belhanda fit in talk……we are desperately short in the wide areas, which is why Lennon has played almost every game this year.

Livermore, Hudd, Bentley and Jenas all arent good enough and should be sold……we are in 3 competitions we need experienced cover in each of the 4/5 midfield positions:

          Currently:
          LM- Bale/Townsend
          RM- Lennon/Falque
          AM- Dempsey/Sig
          CM- Dembele/Hudd
          CM- Sandro/Parker

If we get rid of the 5 above then Holtby is a must NOW….

Would you trust Falque or Townsend to play in a derby or against the Mancs…NO….therefore they are not good enough, Belhanda would offer competition to both of these and for 10mill he is a steal

  3. what are your thoughts

    • When PNB was being considered as a purchase, we heard the same: Where will he fit in?
Look at the Blue Racists. They buy up all the talent and use them as and when needed.
We have League, FA Cup, and Whateveritistheycalltheeuropeanthingywerein.
Also, at the moment we’re bottom of the Physio Room league table for injuries. But pretty soon we’ll be back at our rightful spot in the top two.
      Get ‘im in!

      • Well said. I’ve been saying this for years. Some people’s understanding of football seems to stem from playing Top Trumps.

Injuries, domestic league, Europe, injuries, two domestic pots, replays, injuries. Not to mention injuries.

‘Why do we need three strikers?’
‘Cos two of ‘em are likely to be pants at any one time’

  4. As lovely as Holtby seems, I would personally prefer a big splurge all over Christian Eriksen(snigger) at the end of the season. Having missed out on Carlos kick-a-ball, back in the day, I’d hate to see it happen again.

    • I feel that this window would have to be the one where we would have to tie Eriksen down to maybe a pre contract agreement if we could.I feel mr angry from old trafford may be in for him come summer.guess work i am aware but agree he looks class and feel plenty of teams will be after him in the summer.personally he is the one i would like the most but obviously will get behind all those in our beloved LILYWHITE COYS.

  5. But at his most forward he plays where Dempsey plays and Dempsey despite a slow start and an injury has 6 goals and as many assists. And you can always push Dempsey up, plop Bale in the hole and play Siggy left. Holtby is what you need if you are expecting an injury to Dembele.

We need that Burnley kid who cant seem to stop scoring!

    • Mate, Spurs are NOT a team that ‘need’ a kid from Burnley!!!!! We have to make a statement of intent and that is to sign a World Class player and not a Championship player.

We were in a similar position last January and there was talk of many a superstar joining……we ended up with Ryan Nelson and Louis Saha!!!!

This window we have got to make the right signings, Willian, Wesley S, Moutinho, Llorente, Holtby, Damaio all fit the bill

      • Rub this Essex and i will grant you 3 wishes, no need to be greedy !

      • Habib is also a make up artist on Celebrity come dancing on ice. He see what other men cannot. In fact what other men frequently dare not.

      • Agree we only need one or two top top signings and Burnley is not where i am looking, although i will be shocked if Danny spends the big wedge, in fact you will be able to knock me over with a feather if Danny spends £1.6 mil to have Holtby early when he ahs him for nothing in four months.
But maybe i dint know Danny at all !!!!!

      • Its Levys decision, in the past 2 windows he has done nothing when we were in good positions and we have lost out to City and Arsenal in the race for champs league.

If he goes and gets Holtby and Leandro in right now then AVB has no excuse to not get Champs League football….

People say Leandro will need time to settle but the guy starts for Brazil, has scored against Milan, Barca, loads for Inter, Loads for Brazil, won the golden boot in the olympics, I dont think he will be worried to play against Nelson and Clint Hill on Saturday.

Sandro was different as he wasnt used to anything outside of Brazil, even then he didnt really get a chance until he was thrown in against Milan and was excellent from then on.

If Defoe gets injured we are stuffed

Levy has to put all the made he has made on recent transfers and pick up bargains such as Belhanda, Holtby and Leandro now.

We have the money he bid 22mill for Moutinho in the Summer and he will have very low sell on value compared to Holtby, Damaio and Belhanda who are alot younger

      • I hear you but we have been supporting this club for how long. We know the drill. Sell and buy or get the Burnley kid. Yes I would take a risk, splurge on one top player assuming he will get us into Champion’s League and that will pay for him. I dont see Damiao coming this December. South American deals are dodgy and take time.

I fear we will hurt in the next six weeks because Levy will be prudent. Can we ala Spain save the day with a midfield heavy team? Yes. And that is why we may be in for Belhanda.

    • I think Holtby is actually a Siggy that works, or at least that is the thinking. Siggy wasn’t cheap and is struggling like hell. I don’t know why but Holtby may well be just the ticket.

      • Be rude not to take another supposed wonderkid away from our opponents, wages to be obviously factored in.However, now is the time to push on for players we REALLY need.I`ve done the John bostock n dos santos amazing talent(lol)thing.chances need to be taken when digging for diamonds. This time could we just not buy one from the shelf?.

      • I agree. His style is similar to Sigg but he seems to me as more confident and probably a touch more talented but Sigg may be a lot better than he has been showing.I get the feeling that he is trying too hard and failing.
What Sigg needs is not to come on near the end of games but play in games that are not so big for 90 minutes and get a real go as he might really develop into a first class player.
        This Holtby looks the business.
By the way Harry the Get picture is great.Shame we couldnt get a clip of the Britt Eklund scene from the original film…..here is a photo..

      • Harry how do I get notifications on my comments on email? You should consider using Facebook extension to log comments. That way any resposnse on the comment will get a facebook notification. Will increase comments on your site 300%++ guaranteed!

      • Holtby is a quicker, more mobile, more tenacious and more skillful version of Sig.

Sig will be eventually a player similar to a Lampard or Ljungberg, popping up with goals and using his range of passing without doing anything very skillful. (I love his attitude though great at closing down)

Holtby is modric with goals, similar to a Juan Mata type player…..the kid is ridiculously good, he features in the german team and there midfield doesnt have a player valued less than 20mill in it, when you consider there current 8 who get selected in the squad are Reus, Gotze, Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Muller, Kroos, Gundogen, Khedira….with the likes of Podolski, Draxler, Lars Bender, Trochowski and co who would walk into the england side

        • I’d agree with all that, Jay. Spot on. If we can nurture a touch of the old Juan Mata’s out of him I’ll buy everyone an ice cream.

        • I cannot agree. Holtby is not quicker then anyone. He has however quick feet which is different. In fact there should be a healthy question mark as to how quickly he will get up to speed with Premier League pace. And Holtby in his last 25 games has only scored 3 games. This is no Mata. The German midfield analogy only makes sense if he is a regular and he is not. He is a fringe midfield player like about a dozen others.

He is a classic Levy buy. Young but experienced. Considerably cheap and on the stage if he shows up big he helps Spurs and then goes to Real for 30M at 26. And that’s okay. This philosophy works for us. But he is not a Messiah from anywhere. Not yet.

  6. It’s only 1.6M, we’re flush, unless Levy is planning to pull Damaio or Moutinho (or both :In-Love: ) out of his hat it might be worth it

  7. Holtby has been playing off Huntelaar for Schalke according to the German football correspondent on Talksprt yesterday so maybe there are some legs in the rumour he will join us now rather than in the Summer.

  8. Bring them in now so that they’re are settled and ready to plug the gaps that will inevitably appear in the summer window. It’s the ENIC ‘hokey cokey’: bring one player in, get one player out, in out in out and shake it all about.

  9. In real terms he’d cost us about £3m to bring in early which I say is a bargain. Use the next 6 months as a bedding in period to give him every chance to get off to a flyer next season. Another hidden positive is we could also send Carroll out on loan, hopefully to another prem team, where he can get the games he deserves.

  10. With Ade now going to the ACN, we better not feck up the Jan transfer window this time. I didn’t think that we’d buy anyone of real significance until the ACN debacle, but now it is a must! I don’t think that it’s an overreaction to say that our season could now depend on Levy making the right signing, finally, in the striker department.
I agree with TBH yesterday when he said that a few bad results can make all the difference between top 4 at the end of the season or finishing fifth or sixth. With the unbelievably strong competition for the champs positions this season Levy has to finally shake off his aversion to signing a quality striker. He has done well so far this season with signings and imo this is the time to cement our position in the top four.

  11. The more I think about it,the more Ade can go screw himself.

His messes about half the time and now has an epiphany about playing for Togo again rather than help us fight the fight.
I would get shot of him as quick as possible

  12. It’s probably a bit late for Bale, but let’s show the likes of Sandro, Lorris and Dembele that Tottenham mean business before they realise otherwise; sign a striker, now!

    • Yep, let’s offer Internacional £18M plus Gomes and see if that sweetens the deal. If not, then Levy needs to make an offer they can’t refuse or move on quicky to other targets. One thing’s for sure, we can’t leave it to the 11th hour again.

  13. We could have had Ba at the start of the season for 8M. I know one was a tap in but he did score a brace for the racists on debut….

  14. Holtby said of Tottenham, “They are a big club with an insane manager”.

In fact he said “with an insanely good manager” but i couldn’t resist it.

  15. I think Holtby should be brought in now, we are currently 3rd and why not show some ambition and try to retain it. We will no doubt have further injuries at some point and even if we don’t we need as much quality available as possible to compete in the FA Cup/The Europa and a 3rd/4th place finish………..so yes, agreed HH, get him in asap, along with at least 1 striker

Flipper, I’d leave Carroll where he is, if he is needed due to injuries/rotation, he can fulfill that CM role………….it is counter-productive him not getting game time, so I take your point, but if we end up with the amount of wounded we had earlier on in the saeson, I’d hate to have to rely on Hudd/Livermore as they are below par.

The QPR game could be a bit feisty on Saturday, desperate times for them, us trying to pull away from Everton/Arse, the Redknapp story, the AVB story, the Tarabt thing………….looking forward to this one.

    • Not long now till rent-a-gob tells one and all how dificoot it’ll be on Saturday and what an easy job VB has. Hope we completely take the piss and annihilate them.

  16. And in other news, Modric is voted as the worst new signing in La Liga for 2012 by Marca. I hope he is enjoying his new status as a cautionary tale. Perhaps he should have talked to Robbie Keane before he decided to fly the chicken coop?

  17. Come on Daniel, even if we can’t get Moutinho, get us Damaio or another hot striker pleeeaaassseee!!! Love-Gift

  18. Surely the African Cup Of Nations being on every other sunday dillutes the importance of the competition, considering the growing number of influential and quality African players in the world game. It’s becoming a real fecking annoying competition. Imagine the Euros on every two seasons in the middle of the club season, ridiculous!

  19. In the 1 o’clock race at Leicester there was a horse called ToDareIsToDo, was tempted to back it at 11/2 but my head ruled my heart and i backed Reginaldinho the 5/2 fav, thankpaddy it won.

  20. Let Holtby, Let Holtby, as did sing one Liverpudlian to another ….. over the tops of bins they’d lovingly burgaled

  21. sounds like belinda. hot chick i know quite well

  22. I see the Belhanda to Fenerbache Transfer has just been confirmed, wonderful what you can learn in the Kebab Shop.

  23. Cannot stop saying this… we’ve tightened up in all areas except striker position… Ade & Defoe are just not enough, let alone the ACN… we keep hearing of & discuss midfielders, holding, central, attacking.. what have you, when all we need to complete the jigsaw is a top striker, or even 2 … i hope thats’ all DL is focussing on right now till window end.

  24. ……..”but what if he come back injured? Or riddled with bullet holes?”

Just as much chance of that happenining walking down Tottenham High Road.

  25. ‘I am not Marko Marin, I am Lewis Harry Holtby. I know what I am capable of, and I am thinking very positively about what I can do for Tottenham.’

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2258976/Dont-treat-like-Hugo-Lloris-Spurs-bound-Lewis-Holtby-warns-AVB.html

    Sign him now.

    • Shame about the last couple of paragraphs at the bottom. Very condescending drama queen stuff.

But yeah apart from that, really positive comment from the bloke. He’s certainly staking his claim.

  26. NO we definately do not want the Croat back even at 30m Euros, this special relationship is not just a chance for you to get a toe in at Baler.
Los Blanco’s you have been blanked, enjoy the worst ever transfer to La Liga.

    • Levy is some man for one man,Real paid for a thoroughbred and he sold them a DONKEY Wink

      • Forms temporary- class is permanent, Phil-and he’s class

      • Feels bad to know that our best player for a generation is a donkey!

Honestly, you boys are being soppy. Modric is one of the best around, whether he cuts it at Real or not.

And yes, I would take him back in a minute. But no, his pride wouldn’t allow him, so lets all move on. Personally, I wish him the best. It was a pleasure to watch him for the 4 years he was here, and aside from the Chelsea fiasco and Redknapp lying about him not wanting to play for us I don’t have much to hold against him.

        • You will have plenty to hold against him when he signs for old bluenose and they think they’ve got one over on us, will we ask the FA to check whose fingerprints are all over it ?
Question is, will you still wish him all the best ?

          • If he’s playing for a rival in the same league, then no, I want him to fail and the teams he’s playing in to fail too.

But I don’t hold much hatred for Modric. All of our great players are going to fly the coop one day. Nothing you can do about it. You might as well start resenting and hating Bale now because you will hate him and resent him sooner than later.

            • Where does all this Hate and resentment come from, so many overuse these terms. I do hope his career goes tits up because he destabilised our squad for months, refused to play, chose Chelsea over us and tried to force our hand. However i hate no one except the Spammers, Chelscum, Gunners, Stoke and Chris Hoy ( the Cycling Ref ) oh and Martin Atkinson.

              • When did he destabilize the squad? I don’t think that’s true. He played just as well last season as the one before, was nearly always our best player (or amongst them) Unless you’re blind from reality you have to give him that.

I thought the Chelsea quotes were terrible, and treacherous. However, they have won the league and now even the CL so to a modern day player from Croatia like Modric they are a bigger more attractive club. Small matter that they were also doubling his wages (and then some). The fact that they are greasy little turds propped up by a billionaire crook won’t come into most footballer’s reckoning – that’s the way it is I’m afraid.

              • I agree, there is still plenty of fans including multiple times on this site that revere Berbatov and would bring him back tomorrow, even though he was as bad if not worse that Modric. Does my head in!

        • Redknapp is a wanker, but Ratboy went on record about wanting to play for the blue scum. Hope the pair of them fail miserably.

  27. I think Habib talks most sense here. I don’t see that Holtby is the answer. What he is is a good bit of Levy business, young potential with a guaranteed profit regardless of how he fits in. He only broke into Schalke’s first team last season and is only touching the edges of the Germany national side so to paint him as the immediate impact player we need is a little hopeful it would seem. Free in the Summer and a good pre-season with the squad sounds like the perfect plan for him, don’t mess with it when we already have options trying to bed in in his position.

There is not really any getting away from it, a striker is what’s needed. It’s the same every window really. Sadly, since Redknapp did his royal splurge in January 2009, it seems Levy has kept an extremely tight glove around the purse. But the striker issue is really a bit of a joke now. Even the window-long pursuit of Adebayor last Summer was just adding one to the one we already have, and Dempsey is not a Centre Forward no matter how many he scuffs or poaches. When Ade leaves, we will only have the wee man, and that only displays in clear detail how under-staffed we are there regardless.

  28. It is quite agonising given the circumstances. But the deal is done, it’s a July thing, Danny don’t want to spendy.
So lets not be negative about it, he’s done well to secure the services of someone talented and young on a free especially with all these bigger fish swimming around landing every player they go for. The best thing to take from this situation is that these young players are starting to look at us as the club to join and NOT the goons.
Arsenal are now bidding for the same players as most other teams in Europe to appease their fans and it hasn’t really worked for them so far. We’re a great club for youngsters to sign for with a young manager and an excellent training facility. This is good.

We need a no.9. We’ve needed one for about 4 years so I’d say this is the area that needs addressing this window without fail. Otherwise it sends out a message that we’re not bothered about how well we do as we’re just having a go.

We can tear the club apart and look at the lack of cover for Bale, Lennon, Dembele and now Ade and you’ll probably see that we still need to sell 4/5 players in order to have room for people who are actually options and not last resorts, so in actual fact there are a lot or transfers that need to be done. But they simply won’t happen in this window no matter how glaringly obvious they are. We still have guys from that awful 2008 splurge to get rid of.

    • Splurge!

You are right, it’s since the combined Summer 2008 and January 2009 splurges that Levy has stopped spaffing cash. Not surprising really, those were some meaty losses to claw back one way or another. Though I do believe we should be on an even keel now after a few years of relative thriftiness.

      • Correctamondo. Things feel like they are on track now and we’re shaping up to be a far more classy club with less shit munchers floating about.

Some really bad decisions were made back then not just in the transfer market but also in appointing a manager and coaching staff. For every Modric or Berbatov there’s been 4 or 5 time wasters with no future at the club costing us big.

Levy humoured Redknapp by affording him the luxury of bringing in some bargains but with AVB running the squad, I think we can look forward to some great additions.

        • What I like about AVB is that we are more consistent. As many away wins as home ones. This means once players click it will translate in points. Arsenal used to be like that. Now they’re more like Spurs used to be a few years ago.

          • I like AVB too and I really want him to do well.
But I have to reserve judgement until I see how we do in this window, and where we finish. This time last year….

  29. Of course Holtby isn’t the answer to the striker question, but you can’t have enough quaility players, regardless of whether they’re signed in the interest of making a profit. We will get injuries and he’ll also keep others on their toes.

What won’t be acceptable is to use signing these types of players as positive spin when trying to argue that the window hasn’t been a failure when we’ve neglected, for the umpteenth window, to bring in a capable striker. A scenario that many on here are guilty of window after window.

  30. We need a striker !!! I say let’s sign bob crowe

  31. These odds are ludicrously short and still shortening. They will be Aaron Lennon dimensions before the day is out.

Sorry HH, but replying to this in time order, the current way doesn’t work for me………….anyway

Habib, love your posts mate, but personally, I f@cking hate facebook and do not use it, and never intend to, same goes for Twitter. If people want to use Twitter and FB, then good luck, use it with my blessing, but I hate the converse view that things simply have to flow through both or either of these and web based media cannot function without them. If you don’t use them and don’t want to, you should not have to opt in, imho. that is.

  33. Galatasary in talks with Wesley-fee of 11m accepted, talks about terms in progress

  34. Just read an article about Holtby being stroppy about getting into the team.

Sounds like its more of a ‘Oooh Get Holtby’

  35. I am certain that Levy is aware that the TV money goes up next season. With this in mind, it is more prudent to sign these players up NOW and not when agents and clubs will know that they can squeeze us for more. That’s the one thing that we have in favour in this window – the old miser knows that it could cost us more in the summer.

  36. Even though we need players it doesnt seem so mental without bobagob at the helm.
The staple gun can stay in the draw.

  37. Fuckbook & Twatter ain’t for me.

    • I’m on facebook and although I think it is kind of shit I also believe it has its uses. I also have a twitter account, though that was down to peer pressure really and since joining I’ve barely used it after being alarmed by the sheer mundanity and tedium of it all. Seems a place where people log in to show off to each other and not much else.

But as I say, I do hold accounts with both. Should I get my coat?

      • Each to his own man! It’s not my thing but what really annoys me about it is that half the flipping web now only allows you to comment, or like, or whatever if you’re a facebook or twitter member. It’s a joke, it’s like if you refuse to divulge your entire private life online, you can fuck off. It may be easier if you’re a member but it’s the total opposite if you’re not. All just my opinion of course, but it’s one of the reasons i enjoy this site!

      • That was a very facebook/ twitter type post to make. Thank you sharing that very mundane and tedious information with us. LLL has a facebook account AND a twitter account everybody. YAY!

      • The cloakrooms datta way Who-s-the-man

  38. Harold I have to defend Gylfi. Though his chances have been limited only Azza with 5 has more assists in the Prem than Siggy who is level with Thudd, Moussa and Deuce. The Bale has only one assist so far.

So the problem is not his influence on the pitch more his influence in Andre’s lug hole

  39. Liar Tony mowbray growing pains.

  40. zeke – great name. potential cult hero in the making. “we paid you f**k all, we paid you f**k aaaalllll, we pulled your pants down, and paid you f**k all”

  41. Holtby has a philosophical quote tattooed on his arm in German: “A warrior of light knows that in the silence of his heart he will hear an order that will show him the way.” It was originally penned by Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho and Holtby got the design done in honour of a close friend who died in the Swiss mountains last year.

“It was his favourite quote,” said Holtby. “It also has a deep meaning for me. Whenever I get off the track, this quotation leads me back in the right direction.”

  42. Tottenham are thought to be preparing a £15million offer for Internacional forward but the deal is a complicated one to complete.

Third-party ownership is common in Brazilian football and there are thought to be other investors, outside Internacional, with a stake in Damiao’s contract.

Spurs flew to Porto Alegre, where Damiao’s club are based, last August to try to conclude the transfer but they must reach an agreement with all the interested parties before they can hope to bring Damiao to London. In the past, this has proved beyond them

  43. are you the two ronnies?

  44. I see old Nelsen won’t let QPR down,He’s gonna be there to stop Tottenham. What a man!

  45. Ability is what you’re capable of doing.

“Each to his own man! All just my opinion of course, but it’s one of the reasons i enjoy this site!”

Exactly……………….it’s the exclusion philosophy if you choose not to use them that gets on my tits.

    nsiden17.blogspot.ie/2013/01/ades-departure-blessing.html Thinking

    • I camt say that Ade is a Mido type,Peter Ade is not just a bit more talented. He is incredibly talented. He is just not focused on what he should be doiing and doesnt care. He doesnt take it serious enough until he is dropped or sitting on the bench when all of a sudden he cares and many times sulks
But talent? He has tons of it

    • Interesting article.I think though while statistics show a view of what is actually happening, its not the whole view (as the article suggests)
Possession is not the only thing. I think Brazil may have started that style but when they did they would pass short out of their own half slowly, proddiing along until they saw an opportunity to find a player up front in space and they hit that pass very quickly.
But you see many teams pass the ball across the field and back again and go nowhere.
Ive seen this with us earlier in the season. Lots of possession and not finding too many opportunities and yet on the counter we have always been good with the likes of Bale and Lennon.
The spaniards I think copied that Brazilian style but the most important thing was finding that opportunity, not the possesion.
When Modric was with us he created a lot of the possession time by passing it short, running into space and getting the ball played back to him over and over again. But he rarely split the defence.
Bale in a flash did though and VDV.

  50. i quite like Siggy,he is bigger than you think, more skillful than you might think and young enough to learn,he’ll be a good addition tot he spurs squad

we can actually put out qutie a big and tough team these days with skill and pace, things going well and as i’ve said a few times now is the time for lewis and levy to step up the pressure with a couple of quality signings to put the squeeze on all the C*nts around us,we live in hope
    Worry

    • Levy will at some point go for it.We just dont know when.
Stadium/players are like the chicken or the egg

      • That’s just it though Ronnie, NOW is the right time. We all know it, so Levy must know it too. He can’t pull the wool over the supporters eyes this time, he either acts or he doesn’t, we only have one flipping striker left ffs. I can’t remember the last team to qualify for the champions league with only one striker, having only two was bad enough.

It’s fanflippintastic that we’re 3rd in the league, so i cant see Danny boy letting us down yet again and not buying a good striker, but if he doesn’t, this time , he can f**k off!
If he does, he’s a hero!

        • There is no doubt we need a striker or two.The problem is actually getting quality players in the January window wont be easy. lots of talk about Leandro but read a report that he wont be leaving this window. I think a quality player and in our system will need the summer to get dveloping with the team.
Dempsey now has an opportunity. He is not top class but I think will kick it up a notch. He is starting to find his groove. He is not a great player but can notch a whole bunch for us and now has an opportunity.
Levy is cool.He wont rush. It will either have to be the right player at the right price or a fill in for a song.

          • Unfortunately i agree with you on all counts. I am glad that Dempsey has improved a fair bit and even shown flashes of brilliance at times and i do think can get us goals, but maybe just not enough. I know January isn’t the best time for transfers but i can’t remember the last time so many quality players wanted out of their clubs and would be willing to make a move in Jan, Lorrente, Willian, Negredo, possibly Damiao, Snjeider(not a striker but top class) amongst others. But knowing Levy, he’ll probably not spend unless we can get a bargain which is great short term business but a poor long term strategy IMO.

Now is the time to spend and show our intention to be a champions league regular, and surely the money from it will keep our coffers healthy!

            • There’s still an awful lot of if’s in that statement Astro-
If we spend big-if we spend big and the player/s pay off-If we spend big and the player/players don’t-what then?
It’s all a gamble-but we’re talking about the season and not just a period in the season. What and who are these players that’ll make the difference, are they available? do they actually want to leave?
Getting players isn’t all that difficult, getting the right players however is an entirely different matter

              • If you actually read my post you can clearly see the names i mentioned of players that DO want to leave their respective clubs. As for the right player, well any one of them is 10 times better than only one striker, i think most would agree no?

    • Hello Nobby Nobbs
      Thank you for your post.
In view of your views we are talking the liberty of sending you a fee edition of our award winning magazine Gardening Monthly.
You wonder how we found out that you prefer gardening?
We sent a live reporter down to the pub you frequent and he came back with a pitchfork up his arse

  54. Today’s Mediawatch… Check out Newsnow’s feed (for Tottenham) at 9.14am today – a headline from the Daily Fail:

    – Villas-Boas: ‘Chelsea don’t have a plan because Abramovich doesn’t keep his word’

Looks like a direct quote, right? It’s got quotation marks… but, curiously, it’s now “not available” on the DF website…

Couldn’t possibly be a case of a journo making it up and getting slapped down by DL, could it? No, that would never happen… especially not at the Daily Fail… Wink Wink Wink

    • ps this is hot on the heels of yesterday’s classic:

“EXCLUSIVE: Don’t treat me like Lloris, Spurs-bound Holtby warns AVB” in which Lewis Holtby mentions Lloris’s name precisely zero times… (and, apparently, it’s an EXCLUSIVE… WTF???????????!!!!!!!!!!! Exclusively made up??? exclusively shite??? exclusively engineered to generate maximum hits by lying… ah, yes: that’s it…)
