Good morning.
According to lots of David Villa tosh swishing about online, particularly that there is a THFC interest. Well according to this piece on the Spanish site El Confidencial it’s not true.
‘Liverpool and Spurs vie for Villa’ says The Guardian, ‘Tottenham move ahead in hunt for Barcelona striker David Villa’ says The Metro.
El Confidencial claim that the Barcelona president was approached by us, Chelsea and Liverpool and all were given the same answer. Which is come back on the 30th of June The article does finish on an curious if not interesting note and that is that Liverpool supposedly had some sort of deal in place but Villa’s World Cup injury scuppered the plan.
So perhaps we can stop wasting time on such ridiculous tales and instead focus on the stuff that’s likely to actually happen. Like signing Theo Walnutt.

In the highly unlikely chance that he did turn up in London he would have to learn ‘What a nice pair Bristol’s’ means.
Villa is too old and too much….
So, this means we’re signing Lloriente instead, right? Pant pant pant. Have we been linked with Huntlaar yet? It’s time.
Hold on a jiffy and i’ll just open the vast scrapbook labelled ‘Players linked’……………………… Yep, he’s in there! alongside the hundreds of others the press automatically link us with!
Seriously though, how do the press think we can accomodate 25 midfield players?? I see Sissoko has ‘signed’ a pre contract today, Its going to be a busy training ground come July!
Huntelaar has signed a 4 year extension ….
What’s up Doc?
Knew it was bull. Wages r to much and we have defoe who is similar. I don’t expect us to sign anyone up top avb seems happy with what we have. If one gets injured he will revert back to 4-2-3-1
Although I think we need a striker (watching JD and Adey miss hatfulls is painful), I agree that it isnt a major issue at the moment, we are doing well, the only issue we need to address is teams that turn up at WHL and park the bus, unlocking these defenses is key, we can’t counter attack every team and will need to grind out a few results.
Is a great time to be a yid though, I was at the game on new years day and thought we were excellent, AVB is managing to mix up the patient build up play and flair play now, I think we will only get better now, which is absolutely mouth watering!!
COYS
I want Álvaro Negredo Sánchez
Isnt he the former Presidente of Bolivia, now living in Damascus?????
Damasucus if you do….. Damascus if you dont
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVpOC1C8cGw
I havent seen a box striker like that since Bobby Smith!
LOL, that one did make me laugh! I mean, Levy pay 16Mill for a 31 year old?!! As per usual, Spurs are linked with everyone at present. I do hope we make a few signings though…absolutely need a striker even if Ade doesn’t go to the ANC, also a creative midfielder would be a perfect late xmas pressie.
Down the Lane tomorrow, cant wait! COYS
Walnutt!…….Really!?!?!
ON a free.
I’d rather have Azza! Best 1mil we ever spent.
Are you seriously suggesting Walcott on a free wouldn’t be a good thing?
Just think of the connotations for a moment…
1.effigies of him being burnt en-mass
2.The pleasure of hearing a million angst ridden phone calls to TS saying how they never rated him anyway
3.A player who we can flog in the next window for a few bob.. and that’s just for starters…
Whilst I would revel in every second of nicking the Goons boy wonder and rubbing there noses in it, as we all would!
1- It wont happen and is totally hyperthetical
2- Theres no point having a carbon copy of Azza as they both need a run of games to be consistent
3- I’d much prefer to bring on the likes of Townsend who I think will turn into a great little player or buy a younger more hungry player who doesnt just assume he should be on £100k a week because wallys like Scilacy earn the same as him at the moment.
Just my opinion
Townsends a Championship player at the very best, remember he’s been taken off at HT because he wasn’t good enough, and has been loaned out to all and sundry, but no-ones complained, unlike Rose, about keeping him on? Of course Walcott’s an unlikely move-but we can dream of taking the piss taking long time stylie-can’t we?
Lets agree to disagree on Townsend, I’ve seen enough of him to think like Rose he can play for a Prem club, we dont have a vast history of bringing through youth, which hopefully will change but I think he will be a good player, dare I say we were worried about Bale early on!? (just saying! ha), im not professing he’s the next big thing but can see him developing and eventually being moved on for 5 – 8mil to keep the academy profits well up.
We can dream!! but the way we are going I think we can be confident of having bragging rights regardless…. We’re building a great squad at our Lane, we just need some tweaks but we’re nearly there, AVB’s certainly shut those up who were scar mongering early on, hopefully we can crack on and take 3rd and attract that top quality striker come the Summer!
Spot on, as you say like all else, it’s only our opinion-I don’t think we’ve got enough wedge to buy a top, top striker-if you take Ba for instance, his total is something like 43m, and that’s for a 7.5m striker! If we can keep the shape in midfield, then I’m really pleased as so often a new player will come in and everything changes to suit his style-no, it has to be the right player for the right price, who’ll fit in-if not-then I’d sooner us wait. COYY
The only way I would accept Balcock is if he was free. That would be funny and then we could even just sit him on the bench. But I wouldn’t want him for any money, not even a single round pound.
Oh, No,I wouldn’t play him-fuck that-It’s just it would be so funny
Mixed feelings, complete joy at the anger it would cause, but the idea of having somebody of the Campbell ilk in our team is a bit nauseating.
Oh C’mon FW, Just think of the endless hours of pisstaking and boost in kudos he’ll bring-it’s not going to happen though
I know we won’t get him,but if we did it would be nice to do a Clive Allen and sell him without letting him wear the shirt
Yeah that’s what I meant-12-15m to Juve or Milan kerching-kerching-and laughs all round
Villa was never going to happen thank jebus,31,no thanks, walnut whip b nice, theo NO THANKS,Negredo??.would rather Remy faster better,Berby?gets lazy,Michu??
I get bored of this constant nonsense by Levy. He knows full well even if a bid was accepted that the player will not accept the wages offered. Levy has been at Spurs over 12 years and only cares about the share holders and making money. No new stadium and Bale will leave in the Summer…we will probably make 50 million from sales and spend 10 million!!! Every time we get close with a good team we do no invest….why don’t spurs fans get it…Levy is rubbish and no success will happen with him in charge!!!
Nah,I just don’t get it then
Actually, history shows the opposite. 5 yrs ago ENIC “loaned the club” £50m to invest in players. We’ve been trading up off this bubble of cash ever since. Allowed us to buy Carrick, Berbatov etc to sell for more to buy Modric to sell for more – and build an impressive squad whilst clubs with bigger grounds and greater revenues, stagnated and went backwards. Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland.
Some of those loans have been paid off, whilst we’ve also spent £50m on a training ground and £100m on Land for the New Stadium. This had to come from somewhere.
We also had to write off £15m on Bentley and a few clangers – every club has them. This summer we sold £60m of players and spent £59.5m.
City, Chelsea, and United, have almost unlimited resources which has skewed both the market and fans expectations. Liverpool and Arsenal have more than DOUBLE our wage budget. Double. Whilst raising £450m in a global economic crisis for a new stadium is no piece of cake, and yet even still we’ve still made progress.
If we the fans cared so much about clubs running on losses to fulfil their dreams, why don’t we all take out a credit cards with a £3k limit. 30,000 Spurs fans at the lane would give us a £90m kitty to subsidise the club. We could sell our cars or take out a 2nd mortgage and pay for the stadium?
Of course, we’re not prepared to do that to bankroll success. So why should we expect Levy or Lewis?
For the record Jamie I was being sarcastic,I just couldn’t be asked to argue with someone who clearly has no understanding of the reality regarding our club in comparison to where we are and who we’re in competition with. I think Levy and ENIC have been brilliant for us, and I’d guess if you asked supporters of Everton, Villa, Newcastle etc, their supporters would bite your hand off for his innovation, if offered his services.
I got that, all good. I hear Chris’ frustrations, but wholly disagree that the owners are failing or have taken money out of the club. From what I’ve seen quite the opposite, we just have less of it.
We see so much money in the game, and so many rumours, that we become de-sensitised to it. So much so that the term “a £30m player” has become a regular phrase.
Want to know how many £30m+ transfers there have been in football history? 28, just 7 of which where the buying club has been English.
10 have come from Oil or Sugar daddy money. Chelsea and PSG with 3, Zenit and City on 2.
14 have come from putting the clubs into long term debt – Madrid with 6, Barca with 3 both underwritten by the banks and Lazio, Liverpool, Athletico, Inter, Milan all with 1, and now crippled with debt.
Just 4 have actually originated from wealthy clubs and their resources – Juve 2, United and Bayern 1.
Just to put the £22m bid for Moutinho for a club like ours into some perspective (and no I don’t personally believe that was some sort of PR stunt…?).
Don’t know about most of the facts you are quoting either way, but do know that Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Everton have lower revenues than us, in spite of their larger grounds. Small matter of ticket prices etc.
As for your point about the fans bank rolling the club with their own money – it would hold some water if that wasn’t already the case! Levy certainly doesn’t pay for match day tickets or shirts or sky subscriptions. Or playing staff for that matter. The fans do.
There are two views on ticket prices. One, the club has 60,000 people willing to buy 36,000 tickets and will seek to make as much revenue as it can – the other that football is the last Bastien of socialism and should make tickets affordable to ordinary fans.
I’m fine with both of them as perfectly valid. But if you hold the view that you demand your club competes, and have a small stadium – as long as the owners aren’t taking big dividends out of the club, then we the fans forfeit the right to complain in my opinion. Not that I’m saying that is what you are doing.
So I choose to accept ticket prices as they are. Personal choice.
My point about fans bank rolling the club, is we are only entitled to complain about the football we’ve paid for. Are the resources we’ve given the club being used efficiently? Personally I’d say yes, far more so than clubs of similar financial stature, and on this basis Levy is a good owner.
What we’re not entitled to do as fans, is demand the club buy players from funds the club hasn’t generated from us, the supporters.
If we demand Levy and Lewis behave like a sugar daddy to the club, then we should be prepared to do it ourselves. But if we’re not, we should shut up and quit complaining about net spending.
I didn’t make a value judgement on ticket prices, I just corrected your assertion that Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Everton enjoy larger revenues than THFC.
As to what we as fans are entitled to expect, or demand or wish for, this is all rather more vague and subjective.
Levy is a decent chairman as far as they go but lets look at him for what he is – a managing director working under a seemingly disinterested private corporation. He isn’t the benevolent overseer that many like to dream of. Such owners don’t exist, it’s true. But that means he should be judged on the success or failure or his business choices. He does more right than wrong, but sometimes does wrong, and it’s only fair that people get to moan about that from time to time.
I’m not really getting at value on tickets, I’m getting at the parameters of entitlement. Perhaps I didn’t explain that too well.
My gripe is fans feeling entitled to more than our collective money has paid for. The cry for Sugar Daddies dishing out “marquee signings” from their own pocket rather than our own.
Furthermore, if the club makes a £10m or £20m profit on a player, and then buys more good players with it, you’d have to say we are getting more than our collective money’s worth. Our money has been taken, and value has been added to it. It’s why we’ve been able to climb out of mediocrity. That does take resolve and vision, and not pandering to the popularity and short-termism. Think Liverpool and Newcastle in the mid 2000s.
My point about other middle-ing clubs is that we have done over taken them from where we were when ENIC bought the club. That was our level, now we’re in despair if we finish below Arsenal.
That’s not all come from high ticket prices, it’s also good judgement, good commercial deals, and everything that goes with it.
Levy ain’t perfect, and as for his true motives I couldn’t say, but I couldn’t point to anyone with a better track record for maximising resources in the PL – whilst the Training Ground isn’t a project for someone looking to take money out of a club (as was suggested at the beginning of this thread, at some point in the late 90s!)
The training ground is a sound investment whichever way you look at it – if you spend 60m on a set up which may help enable you to develop more home grown (lower cost) first teamers and also helps the first team more in terms of fitness etc, that’s money well spent. Not to mention that it is also part of a much more attractive package to any would be buyers of the club.
I don’t want a sugar daddy at all, and I’d hate to be either one of Leeds or City to look at it from two opposite ends of the spectrum. But lets face it, our chairman has done some good things, but he’s also hired some poor managers and overseen some poor signings (Bentley springs immediately to mind) and perhaps missed some good ones at other times. Not nit-picking, just saying that if you are going to be objective you have to look at everything.
He’s a decent chairman and he’s already pulled off two great moves in this window. I think if he delivers us one player who can make the difference in this window it would be one of his best moves ever, and that’s not crying our for a sugar daddy, it’s that I think the squad and manager needs that extra piece of the jigsaw to push us over the line into the top 4, and finishing in the top 4 surely takes more importance this season than many others.
I would take issue about overseeing the spending on players-I think it’s because of this, Ramos being the last of those-that he has then looked at it, and blocked moves for Cole and James accordingly despite Redknapp wanting them-and who knows what others he’s put the block on-after Redknapp’s initial splurge on poor players.
LLL sounds sensible to me, I’m talking more in the abstract than an assumption of your views when I speak of fans looking for Sugar Daddies.
The manager thing has been his learning curve and not his strong suit.
It is though you’d have to say something he’s got better at. The last 2 have (to date) I would say been successful.
Managers are always a minefield for clubs. Utd and Arsenal have been lucky in being able to stick with very good ones. Before them they went through loads. Chelsea have bought the best and spat them out. Every club around us has also had a few clangers, though perhaps not a Ramos.
We’ve had this conversation before and although fans certainly contribute, but don’t pay anywhere close to the total revenue of any top premiership clubs, It’s a nice theory, but the reality is another thing. When it was based on fan generated income, we were a big club, so big. that despite getting relegated, we afforded a massive spend to consolidate our return to Div 1. That just couldn’t happen today.
We have done, and aside from corporate sponsorship (which is an extension of the fans as it is companies using our advertising space to sell stuff to our clients) and TV money (which is an extension of the fans as Arsenal fans don’t buy subscriptions to see Spurs games), where do you think the money does come from? Enic don’t appear to sink any losses into Spurs and Levy takes a nice salary obviously.
The way in which football clubs are financed is more complicated than it used to be, but in the end it still comes down to any one clubs popularity in numbers and individual spending. Surely?
Popularity and income through the gates are poles apart=If Sky went the shape of a pear-all clubs would go to Carey Street, because Sky get’s money from Bury and Carlise supporters as well as those who like Cleveland Browns or Sydney for example-and Prem clubs benefit accordingly-which is why we as a club were 20 years behind the ‘top 6 clubs’ for so long, having to rebuild after near bankruptcy in the early 90′s-and that should never happen again-semi or no semi. We’re a big club in our own right, but you have to give Levy the credit for us being competitive against these Mega=Big clubs as well, and is so deserving of anything he takes home in salary. take the oil rich clubs away and then tell me he’s not worth every penny?
I just find it hard to get quite so moist over ‘business’. I follow the club for stupid, sentimental reasons. Levy is here for different reasons, and quite right, this is a business and you need good businessmen. But don’t ask me to bow down and worship fine businessmen, just doesn’t get my juices going.
In any case, he has dropped some clangers along the way. You can’t deny it.
The worst thing to happen to Spurs was arguably City. But for them we would already be a regular top 4 team (thanks as much to Liverpools mis-management as Levy’s sound sailing btw) and reaping the financial benefits. That year that we pipped them was really significant but was always only going to be a one-off.
I couldn’t agree more LLL,but if it was us, would you honestly care?, but that aside, they did, and if we tried to compete, we’d be up shitcreek, so as said by Jamie, if we can do and can afford it-do it, if can’t-move on.
It’s paper bullshit Chris, don’t be so soppy. We obviously haven’t bid for him. 16m on a 31 year old on wages above our cap? It wouldn’t even pass Levy’s email spam filter.
Do we still have a cap? at least, do we have one as stringent as that when we were a PLC. The reason I’m asking is the Bale contract extension, as i can’t see his people extending a contract, especially after the Modric sage, for anything less than 90-100k
saga
It did seem we were loosening the terms, and now the wages are a little more secret… Same thing with Ade, I heard we are paying him 100K a week (part of which is balanced by a 5m transfer fee if you think about it).
I do know that our wage bill soared over the Redknapp period, someone had the figures at some point. I don’t think this was Redknapp’s fault so much – he doesn’t exactly broker the wages himself – more a symptom of trying to stay competitive in the modern era of City and Chelsea etc.
That’s how I would’ve read,otherwise we wouldn’t be in the market with Arsenal-more like vying with Everton/Villa
I think a lot of it has come from spending next years PL money, which has doubled. I don’t expect us to have more than 2 or 3 on Bale’s wages at any one time until either we consolidate CL status for 2 years on the trot, or the new stadium gets built.
Walcott would be awesome on a free and maybe a little payback for the whole Sol Campbell thing. I don’t think it’s likely though.
No,No,No,nononononononononononononononononononono. It ain’t going down like that. No. S** c**Tbell should not be uttered. sssshhhhhh
This is not new or even news. Red or maybe Navy Herrings have always been a part of Tottenham culture ever since the advent of windows.
Just like we are champions of the Fair Play League,The Home supporters are very quiet and reserved League and the Winner or the Critical of our own Players League we also are top of the Put out all these Old Grandma Stories League.
Negative stories sell. First we put out that we are signing David Villa and we deny it and then say we are thinking of Llorente and end up with the last second of the last minute of the Window with someone who will be named later ( I mean he will be named later by hiis Mum and Dad)
It took stories of about 6 top class strikers that didnt happen to finally secure Ezekiel Fryers for 3 mil.
Look this is the total opposite to the noise bastards down the road from us who develop babies from test tubes and sell them off when they are 10 for billions and then claim that they have no money.
Still we are third so we must be doing something right.Just not with any players that are linked to us.
Please Call meJanuary 31st 11.59pm and tell me whats happening Im going back to bed.
With Fryers signing we now have 2 left backs, 2 right backs and er 2 forwards. Perhaps we need another forward.
Actually, I’m wrong. Dempsey is a forward. We don’t need anymore forwards.
From what I’ve seen of him he’s more of a ‘Sideways’, sometimes even a ‘backward’
It occurs to me that this summer is the best chance we’ve had in years to solve this problem. It’s a perfect storm..
FFP will curb spending, whilst the PL doubles TV money.
I see Falcao and Cavani moving this summer, perhaps Balotelli. This should occupy some of the oligarchs gobbling up the latest fad on £200k wages. Take a few out of the equation, United won’t be in for a striker..Juve have Llorente, everyone in Spain bar the big 2 are skint. Milan and Inter are “rationalising”.
Meanwhile, how many above us in the pecking order will be in the market? PSG might take someone out of glutinous boredom, but the player wouldn’t get a game. Bayern are sorted.
Rather like how we nabbed Lloris, timing. And Lewandowski has 1 yr on his contract this summer.
My main concern is, I don’t think FFP will hold water once a major team transgress the rule-I can’t see Real or Barca getting kicked out, but I can see clubs like ours getting it up the backside!
100%. It will be down to how many TV viewers does the first offender bring in. If it’s a minnow UEFA will be all strong and make an example of them.
Platini has a thing about City and Chelsea so that would be interesting. But if it were one of the establishment such as Bayern or Real Madrid would they have the bottle to ban them?
Notwithstanding an inevitable legal challenge and threat of a break away.
Cheeky we dont buy like you are suggesting we should. We buy wholesale.
You have 10 backs? How much are they?Ill take all of them?
How much for that striker???? HOW MUCH????? forget it.Ill put Lloris up front.
Look at the picture above. Tottenham put out a story that we were going to buy the one on the left,(think his name is Benny Hill) as a striker and City,Chelsea and Arsenal all said that he was a target for them,so we bought the creative midfielder on the right
Two big ‘uns up top, that’s the way to do it
One of ‘em is sure to nipple in and score!
BRAvo, Ronnie, I think we may have our biggesthits yet
Not wishing to be a knocker, but anything other than a top drawer striker this window will feel like a booby prize.
My mammory’s not what it was but I think BHs favourite ice cream was raspberry ripple.
What nawks me most are those tits who try to get abreast of the situation-making molehills out of mountains
For sure the footie would be titillating!!!
you sound like bosom buddies
So, are we up for D cups tomorrow?
We are surely and sorely milking this for all its worth. Its past its due date and even Pastyereyes.
Even Twitchy face was offered Shneijder,or at least he claims he was….or at least the site claims that he claims he was
http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/130104/harry-redknapp-claims-qpr-offered-chance-sign-inter-milan-star-wesley-sn-1885
You have to love the standard Tottenham ‘Smokescreen’, what would we all do For Jan or for 3 months in the summer without the crap that gets churned out! We’d end up like the goons trawling the internet for a scrap of a transfer story only to find out they’ve bought a 1 legged center back on 200,000 a week to keep the new comfy seats at the Emirates warm.
Im bored of hearing how twitchy face ‘could’ have signed! If any of it was true you’d have to suggest he was deliberately sabortaging us by not signing any of them!! He’s probably laying bets on how many times he can appear on SSN during transfer windows!
Very solid rumour Joao Moutinho to be signed
Hmmmmm…. ‘Solid’ and ‘rumour’ in the same sentence……
:Crazy2:
The only signing that we need and have needed for the last few seasons is a striker of Llorrente or Willian quality. So obviously we won’t be signing a striker yet again.Oh well…. there’s always the next window….and the one after that…..and the one after that….
We actually made a loan offer a couple of weeks back but like Liverpool and Arsenal we were told it was not an option. All 3 clubs suspect that they will change their minds if he’s still there at the end of the window so have asked Barca and his agent to keep them informed of the situation.
I have better things to do than pretend to be ITK, I never usually have any information but this is on good authority so you can believe me or not, I don’t give a flying f…
Happy New Year!
I know the likes of Essex get a bit of semi-on when we sell our best players and put a bit of lolly away for a rainy day, but we were led to believe that 20m plus was available for Moutinho only for the banker to call up and throw the deal at the last minute. So anyway, if true, I think 20m well spent on one key player would make a major difference to us and help make 4th (or better) a reality not a fairy tale dream. I’m thinking a striker like Llorente (who won’t cost half that with his contract running down but probably won’t come) or the final ball / final jigsaw piece midfield maestro that we are missing (and no, I don’t know who that is, but I’m not a highly paid, expert eye footballing scout or powerful, moneyed football chairman either).
We’ve spent the Modric and VDV lolly, that’s gone – but I agree £22m for Moutinho is ok for us IF we do the following things (which I’m certain we will):
1) Only spend budgeted to NOT getting into the CL.
2) Are able to solve other positions cheaply – Holtby’s, Fryers etc.
3) Payment terms mean we don’t wipe out our cash reserves for subsequent windows.
They are pretty tight parameters to what is already a complicated deal, so whether it can be done…who knows.
As a fall back IF we got Holtby done for next summer and fail on Mout, we can always push to get him for a few mil near the end of the window (S04 coach has said he should go) and they’ll be over him in a few weeks. Then summer would be a whole different ball game.
I’m wildly guessing this is our strategy.
I also think in pure football terms, Moutinho is as good a card as we can play to get 4th.
We’ve score more goals away than anyone bar United (playing on the break), whilst we’re around 10th on goals scored at home (when teams sit back).
It’s obvious a bit of guile would make a huge difference to us.
I’m not sure that Moutinho is really the answer any more. He is the holding, possession keeping mid, right? We aren’t really lacking in that dept with Sandro, Dembele and Parker. We need a creative midfielder and a striker more than anything I think. Perhaps one of these Willian ‘types’ who can play behind the striker or on either wing. We bought Dempsey and Sig in this role but neither have really cut the mustard.
Maybe, Levy’s spending the money he may get from Real next summer, on players that maybe needed next summer-just a thought?
Moutinho doesn’t strike me as a like for like for Bale either. Ulp!
As said before about Moutinho is why didn’t Real go for him before-Lingo, on the doorstep, cheaper than Modders-it just makes me wonder all the more
Two reasons I see.
1) Modric is a slightly better player.
2) He can also can play more positions. Mourinho has always preferred a smaller squad of very good players, than lots of ok back up players.
The reason I see Moutinho is the answer is his ability to pick out the incisive forward pass. Dembele drives past a player, particularly effective on the break with space to run into (and all round triffic top top player).
Our problem is unpicking the lock against Stoke at home with everyone behind the ball. We have 30 pot shots on goal against teams that sit back, rather than create 5 really good chances as we would with the Modric, VDV axis.
It won’t be quite the same structure or system, Moutinho isn’t a no.10 – but what I saw of Porto and what we tried to do early season with Sig, Dembele, Sandro – is have any of the 3 break forward or drop deep to play out from the back.
So much harder to play against than the more defined roles the 3 had last season – which eventually teams learned how to mitigate.
The other reason – and just to contradict everything I’ve ever said about objectivity and rational fiscal analysis – is after all the shit AVB has weathered with injuries, the hostile media, and being boo-ed by our own fans after 2 games – I think he deserves him. He’s earned the right to have the one player he thinks can improve us.
Oh and f*ck me , just got home and seen we’ve signed Holtby! Get in!!!
As said before Jamie, players and managers are just ships in the night to me-It’s the club where my heart lies, and provided they play good football, I’m a happy Cock-but I’ve seen enough teams in my time to understand star players don’t always make a star team, if you get my drift?
For sure, no player bigger than the club and all that, but stars are also a party of a club’s history. Especially a swagger seeking club such as ours.
Greaves, Ginola, Gascoigne, Hoddle, Mackay, Lineker, Ardiles.
In recent decades, we’ve had great players but no real Legends for a long time. Klinsmann left too soon.
Berba and Modric burned their legacy by their conduct.
Bale will leave us on day, he wants to play abroad and good luck to him. Hopefully when he does he treats the club respectfully and becomes a cherished part of that.
Have just heard we are signing Gene Kelly, Walt Disney and Kay Burley to form an evil triumverate in midfield.
Fcuk the wanderers and cheatski we will grind their bones and dance on their hats.
Long live the king.
If a signing is going to happen (and a class forward or acm is needed) then I just hope it happens sooner than later. We’re more than half a season gone- Levy needs to get them in now so we can hit 2013 running and avoid a relapse in the vein of 2012. Any news on the German midfielder? Oh, and at the end of the last window I was refreshing this site as the rumours and counter-rumours flew by. I think a poster called IrishSpur or IrishYid posted in the final moments that Levy was faxing the contract to Porto for Moutinho. History tells us this actually happened but tricky third party ownership admin stifled the deal. I really hope this guy posts again because his information suggested he was in the room as it was happening!
Official from the club that Lewis Holtby will john from Schalke in July subject to medical
Join even….
That’s cracking business from Levy, hats off
Yes- just hope we can get hold of another class player in the next couple of weeks. Levy has done extremely well, but hats off to AVB too because our recent form might also have sealed the deal for Holtby.
These are the sort of signings we need…..and DL and co, are good at getting….Holtby, Fryers and a decent young striker who we can gently ease in to the side and we’ll be a real force next season…
Nice one
What makes it even better is that in the Mail today, Auntie Whinger admitted he was interested in signing him.
Gooners and ManU pissed off in 24 hours. Nice.
“‘ello, is zis Shalke’
‘Ya’
‘ Arsene Wenger here,I’m inquiring about Herr Holtby’
“Vot-der Spurs player Holtby?’
“ello?…’ello?’
Nice one Essex, I bet Aunties water bottle took a beating after that call.
‘Hollo-Is that Stonord Leige?’
‘Schure-for schure’
“This is Sur Alox Forgosson, and I’d like to ask how young Fryers doing?’
‘Why are you phoning here for schure?’
“Wadda ya meen?’
‘We schold him to schpurs for 3million’
‘HELLO!’
‘Are you OK Schure Alex-you schond like you’re choking to death?”
Hello?
Hello?
Levy 2 Siralex/ Auntie Whinger 0
Oh, David, the windows still young, which sort of proves the point-if the deals there, he’ll do it-but if it needs brinkmanship-then he’s your man as well-sort of a Total Chairman, as he can play in many positions
Interesting to see who we will sign this window.
Still think we need a striker, especailly if Ade goes to to ANC but we also have no wide speed merchants to cover for Bale or Lennon if they go lame.
We seem to be well covered every where else, particularly if BAE is now fit.
I know some still want Moutinho but where would he fit in and who would he replace ?
You could say the same for Schneider although I guess he could play off the striker.
We don’t need major surgery just a little beefing up.
Schneider would absolutely play off the striker and would be exactly what we need, but no way is he coming here on those wages. Just ask Redknapp.
Then take a punt on Erikson, more our type of player I’d have thought
I’d have thought so, and given his recent interview where he said he wouldn’t opt for a Chelsea or City type club where they continually buy players and if they don’t work out quickly dump them, I think he would look at us as a good option. Then you have the Jan connection. Only thing is that surely Moltby fits his billing – 20 year old promising attacking midfielder. Eriksen is a little further up the chain but would he have the immediate impact that we are looking for (i.e the way that VDV had when he first joined)
A striker it is then?
The club definitely need to sign a striker soon. Ade and Defoe, love ‘em or hate ‘em are both in their late twenties and I can’t see Kane having a career with us.
Defoe’s 30 mate
As usual there’s the usual smattering of “Levy doesn’t do this, that or the other”, or we should sign *insert “big names” here* etc.
However I came across this article regarding the current Philadelphia Eagles American Football team, which had their worst season for a long while, and there are some interesting comments from the GM (and a number of longer term players have come out to criticise “the newer guys”).
http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/eagles-talk/Roseman-Lack-of-chemistry-decimated-Eagl?blockID=819079&feedID=692
Food for thought. These “star” additions weren’t that invested in the team they were playing for, or giving their full effort, whilst being happy to pick up the big cheque.
Maybe that last sentence describes Adebayor, maybe not.
But wholesale changes are not necessarily needed, and we should continue playing a slowly, slowly game. One or two signings could prove useful in the areas that clearly need attention (which is mainly the striker position), perhaps Moutinho? The signing of Fryers is clearly with the long term view in mind. And amen to that. We’re building steadily, team chemistry seems excellent and I for one am more than happy with how things have played out in the last year. Redknapp is gone, and has been replaced with someone who can see beyond the likes of signing “triffic” Joe Cole or Rio for a small fortune in green gauges.
Holtby in July? I missed that. Great. Playing the long term game.
I just seen that on my FB news feed. It’s great we’re bringing in these young players and I like it when we’re active in the transfer market. Looking forward to a far more productive pre-season.
But if I’m honest I’d really like us to sign some1 for now, a creative mid fielder.
Players are actually choosing to come to us ahead of our competition.Time for the anti Levy brigade to lay of him,he is showing all how a club can work within its parameter and still attract talent without putting the club in joepardy.
Maybe we should wait and see how well he plays at our club and in the Premier league before we give Levy the bumps for this purchase. He might turn out to be a rebrov or arshavin or sumfink.
Rebrov cost £11m.Arshavin chose the wrong North London club, you grab Levy’s legs I’ll do the arms,Hip Hip
@Urbane, that applies to any signing-he’s employed a managerial team to pin point players-he just does the deal (or not) because he’s got a managerial team who he can trust, not one buying a load of old tut and premium prices, surely you can’t fault Levy for the teams poor purchases?
Any chance of us signing our proper bluish shorts back this window? I’m fed up with watching us and trying to force the horror of Leeds United out of my mind. “Out of my mind”, Freudian slip. :Afraid:
We had the old blue shorts back on at the slaughterhouse better known as Villa Park, and i got all tingly. We should go back to the old format- wear all white for cup games only.
I’d settle for Navy Blue seats at the Lane-not fcuking Chelsea blue unless they stick pictures of John Terry on them so I can plant my arse and let rip-in fact I’d make sure I had a curry beforehand if they did
John Terry is too busy having his photo taken with Hitler or Atilla or Temuchin or any c**t that will court controversy and get him publicity.
David ‘we’re all in this together’ Camerooon it is then!
I nearly included Grant Schapps, but that is too f*****g scary.
Osborne, Hague, IDS, Pickles, the list is f*****g endless. What’s really scary is there are plenty more like them waiting in the wings.
Actually as I wrote that, I was thinking there may a picture hopefully of Terry’s ugly mug gatecrashing our victory parade
did you notice that slowly over the years cheatski have started wearing navy tracksuits etc.
And a white away strip, the fcuking wannabies
As I posted a while back, I wouldn’t put it past Levy to have employed AVB just to stick one up Roman, as if as we all hope, he turns out a diamond-what a great two fingers up that’ll be- as he’s cost us bugger all, yet it cost them 12m I think in compo to Porto
A nice little precis this. You can edit youtube clips to make Taraabt look like Messi if you put your mind to it, so I’m reticent – however this is every touch of his in a league game vs Hertha Berlin.
Warts and all. Looks a tough little player with great awareness! COYS!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mILZ11-K0_U
Best hope Defoe and Ade dont get injured or go off to another tournament eh. I hope we get another striker.
There is the past the future and of course now. Levy get yer cash out.
Great to see the club being forward thinking, Fryers & Holtby will be great additions for next season, he’s building a core in the squad that will serve us well for the next 6-7 years, we’ve always been in panic buy mode before, of course i would love a lethal finisher but the future’s bright. Would just like to rest Walker and get him some direction and coaching rather than lose a poss talent. Hope Benny has had time to focus, at his best there’s none better. Pity Kaboul’s return has been delayed again, he deserves a decent break and we will need him for sure in the final 3 months, especially with Europa challenge.
Blissfully Happy this window as i know we’re not chaseing coffin dodgers.
Here here. Coffin dodgers. Love it. Bodes well for the future and boy does it feel good to be a yid. The fact that Srallex is so cheesed off is a great sign. ” A club of their size should no better” er BERBATOV……….CARRICK. GLORY GLORY TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.
Does anyone know how old you need to be to go on a ‘mature’ date ?
I looked it up for you ODM,its that age when your not too sure if you have control of your bowels.
0 to 2.5 yrs old ?
If Wayne ‘Shrek’ Rooney is willing to shag ya, then ya old enough!
If you can still stand to attention you’re def young enough.
I’m not as good as i once was
But am as good once as ever i was
PS….There’s wee blue tablets to put some lead in you’re pencil, just ask Julio at the Bricklayers.
If they’re anything like those Keano Reeves took-forget it
SAF urges authorities to look into Fryers’ transfer!
Pot & kettle?
Srallex needs to shut it.Twerp
Toys, pram, blistering red nose, baby tears……..
Suralix, why was the son of a Bulgarian rapist in your company at Old Trafford before even a fee with your club had been agreed with his current club? I absolutely love how this has turned out and if that Scottish twat gets any redder he’ll burst!
Brilliant!
Not forgetting the kidnapping,as he was supposed to talk to City, illegal tapping up for 2 seasons with both Berbatov and Carrick?
The pissed up old geriatric is now asking for the transfer to be ‘investigated’ & stated that ‘It’s a Daniel Levy deal. You know, it’s his fingerprints all over it’.
Keep it up Govan boy, us lot down here are loving it!
More, More, More!!!………..
There’s a few bottles of Bells with his all over them I’d reckon
Bell-End?
There was an old man from United,
Who thought he scare little Spurs,
But one Friday in Jan,
To the telephone he ran
To hear our Dan say ‘Up yours!’
TA-RA
I like the fact that we have said Utd. will be getting 5% of the fee – insult to injury.
Levy should send the 5% via courier. DHL are supposed to be good.
in pennies
In Euros.
Are DHL Levy’s intials?
They’re one of ManU’s main sponsors.
Oh, the irony!
oh yeah, fuck me the night gets betterer and betterer
I’ll jump aboard the Levy love boat when he eventually ponys up for a striker that might actually win us something. Until then, I’ll let the usual, naive, deluded and easily pleased keep Levy’s arse immaculately clean.
I don’t think i can do ‘immaculate’. Will ‘adequate’ do?
Can you have an immaculate misconception?
Yes. If you vote BNP.
Class. Your comment, not them.
Aren’t the BNP the respectable wing of the Fascist movement? As opposed to the thugs and streetbrawlers that permeate the far right? Oh hang on, it’s a trick question, isn’t it? They’re actually the same people!
I thought they were the respectable wing of the Tory/UKIP axis (of evil). Or have i got that the wrong way round?
We’re collecting midfielders, maybe Sneijder is signing for us after all! Who needs those pesky strikers anyway!!!!!
Don’t Spain win everything with no strikers?
When you’ve got a midfield like they have you don’t need any strikers.
Holtby on the free and SAF’s nose not only redder but also bent out of shape….
Old Klingon proverb about revenge being a dish best served cold….
Not a bad day for DL, not a bad day at all….
You can just imagine DL giving it his best Dr.Evil sitting in a big leather chair stroking a furry white pussy
All hail Sir Levy. He will be knighted one day. I like him an awful lot and glad he is on our side. Just hope he delivers a world class striker to piece the puzzle. The new stadium, and a winning side. Glory at last, well at least in my 33years.
Holtby’s agent said that AVB was the deciding factor and that he is a top coach. Good to hear!
how much are you putting on that and are they good odds?
bacon face wants to the fa to block Fyrers move, He must be worried we are building a team for the future,Fryer must be good hope he is as important as Gazza was for us ,that was annuver stunt we pulled on him. arf arf arf

Believe me, it’s a great sign that that the twat is giving us shit, it proves that we are finally becoming a threat to him. Remember the years of praise from Fergie while they thumped us silly on the pitch every year, all of a sudden we beat them in OT, nick their promising left back , and to top it all off, this time even Man U can’t afford our best player. Brilliant!!!!
I remember when we complained to the FA re ManU kidnapping Berbatov at the airport, Fergie making some reference to Levy being “different”.
Was not meant as a compliment but seems the different man has come back to bite him on the arse.
They still get 5% of 3 million, what is he bleating about ?
So that is £450,000 instead of the 6 million they wanted.
Could sweeten the deal by giving them first refusal on JJ.
What a beautiful mind you have
Thank you FW2, shame my maths is crap!
5% is £150,000 is it not ?
And isn’t 5% the normal finders fee? what’s his problem?
Correctomondo Eton, that makes it even funnier.
According to the Grauniad we’ve paid Liege 900k for him, meaning Utd will get another 45k on top of the 250K that they got for him in the Summer.
Now that’s funny!
Is that right, fcuk me, that’ll ease their debt burden of an hour at least
It won’t even scratch the interest on their debt……..now that’s really funny!
I haven’t smiled so much in ages-an there’s still 3 weeks to go-can it get any better-let’s hope so!
Fackin dodgy emoticons.
Hey, I take pleasure wherever I can get it-I’m a proper follower of Epicurean philosophy-it happens that I love my team and my dogs-anything else can go whistle
What an absolute Horses Ass Alex Ferguson really is, Levy’s fingerprints all over it, Newcastle are only a wee club from up North, where’s the Respect…….Ferguson was only a second rate footballer playing most of his career at Falkirk and dragged up in the streets of Govan in Glasgow, the tenement kid.
He once said of Gordon Strachan ” i decided this man could not be trusted an inch”. Problem is Ferguson thinks he owns the Premier League, what a 24 Carat Plonker you are Alexander.
He has been getting away with it for so long and seems to be getting worse.
How long before we get described as a wee club in North London ?
‘Wee’ club?, yes you’re right-Levy’s just pissed on him
Alright Essex, you are on good form tonight.
Are you going to the game tomorrow, according to the site it is sold out which surprised me.
oh yes, but apparently there’s a fuss about the Coventry allocation, not sure if that’s what thrown the capacity out or not-but it’s one of those games that for one reason or another-you’ve just got to go to
By all accounts we’ve prepared a list of players available for Redlnapp to peruse -Livermore being one, but if it’s a Portsmouth style raid-I bet the fee’s will have an additional 5m spread about them?
I’m sure anyone Redknapp actually wants comes with a ‘must take Bentley and/or Jenas’ clause.
By the sounds of it, I think JJ’s career is over injury wise…(batten the hatches)
Huddlestone to Rangers and Jake to Fulham is the latest on the drums
I’m 61 tomorrow. Maybe we can replicate a bit of 1961 for the rest of the season and get a bit of revenge tomorrow against Snozz for 1987!
Many happy returns BC for tomorrow-as for revenge? what a horrible, horrible day that was indeed-I took absolutely nothing away from that other than the flattest and emptiest feeling I’d ever felt. But what a team that was, to end up with nothing, but the football was special that season
Happy Birthday BC
Have a good 61st, fellow Capricorn :Happy-Birthday2:
Sir Alek upset that Rooney has another Vegas holiday for a month, so he has to vent. Goood that both Man clubs have their foot in their mouths at the moment. Keep it going Mario
This taken directly from of the United website
The manager is urging the authorities to look into the matter as the Reds lost out on a sizable fee for the defender but he accepts that Spurs’ actions were not in breach of the current rules.
So what the fcuk is his problem?
“
he’s a twat, that’s what his problem is
Good thinking-I wonder if his bellends as blue as his hooter right now?
Problem is he’s left looking like a real sourpuss, The Liege manager left in Nov and Fryers was not in the new managers plans, also Fryers is young and was homesick. DL should take it to the solicitors and haul the Red Nosed Old Git over the coals, about time someone took him on.
I agree Raz, but I was and am still of the opinion that we should have taken both Liverpool and Utd to court over Keane and Berbatov in 2008. Both clubs actually paid us a considerable sum because of the breaches, and furthermore I’d have taken Berbatov to court for breach of contract when he refused point blank to play-but there you go-at least with Modric, he learnt-boy did he learn?
Didn’t like what he said about Pardew, it’s one thing Fans of opposing teams giving it stick but for a Knight of the Realm to speak about a fellow manager with such disdain, he must be suffering from Dementia/Senility, maybe we should all feel sorry for the old Git.
DT’s more like Raz
Sir Alex Ferguson, has demanded: ‘A probe,’……………..Indeed!
Would the expression on his face resemble this:
more blue, more red-oh fuck it, just leave him marooned
“Unfortunately,(titter titter) a combination of this,(guffaw) and the fact that he had become homesick (scratches chin)meant he wanted to return to England (pee’s down leg) and his representatives made contact with clubs in England.(well, Spurs) This afforded us a second opportunity to sign the player and as per FIFA’s solidarity contribution mechanism, Manchester United will receive five per cent (45k) of the transfer fee we have paid.” (raucous laughter all round, and praise for the typist’s ability to keep a straight face and steady hand) instead of 6m those bastards tried gettingo ut of us!
Methinks you are revelling in the moment !
What a Transfer Window…..so far.
I’ve waited over four years for this Raz, it’s a small shot, but it’s hit its target, and I like Levy because he get’s even when wounded and doesn’t roll over or forget-top bloke
‘hey Sir Alex, what’s up?..you look like a bloke whose found 45k but lost 6m!’
Pees down leg,nice one
We are Tottenham. We dont talk about Signings. We talk about Sightings
Just seen on Sky there he was at the races today and his odds on shot called I’m fraam Govan was well beaten into fifth. Not one of Alexanders Greatest days. Might even root for the Hammers tomorrow in the 5:15 KO although a draw would be nice.
Looks like we might have nabbed Hotby!!!!
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1288189/tottenham-agree-deal-sign-holtby?cc=5901
Where you been man?
Back to the future again Ron? trade the DeLoren on for a decent car mate
Did we sell Coldby?????????? What happened I was at the barbers
Some very enjoyable reading on United blogs tonight.I think they think they’re a big club, yes very big, actually very very fucking big, they like the word big and are very angry at little Spurs, fucking great
:The-Incredible-Hulk:( Fergie)
Fergie) :Overjoy:( Levy)
(Me)
(Everton):Overjoy:( Liverpool) :Overjoy:( Newcastle)

As Corporal Jones was heard to say on more than one occasion
THEY DON’T LIKE IT UP ‘EM !
As chrispurs said he wanted a probe and Levy obliged
sick of Them and their support of plastic know nothing glory hunters. Got in early at the Nassau cricket club to watch us v Reading, knowing the local mancs roll in expecting to always be on the big screen, got the Manager to switch us on the big screen about 20 local mancs had to watch on the small screen behind while us 3 Spurs sat in front of them and relaxed, Great to see their faces and hear the comments as they walked in one by one and realised they were marginalised .I always do this now when we are billed to play the same time on different coverage. :P leasure:
How flippin’ wide is your grin going to be now?
Slur Alex is starting to lose it if he thinks this team is one of his best. They have three outstanding strikers and Vidic but little else.
They are getting away with it right now but for how long is another question
They are not getting away with anything. Its true they have one defender and three strikers. But Fergie is the best manager in England.
Its true he had no idea who to meld Ronald,Tevez,Rooney and Berbatiov into a cohesive group.Infact it destroyed Berbativ at United. But he came back with success with the manilulation of his players brilliantly.
He gets the most out of what he has.
The Ballad of Dan and Big Red
The Gunslingers stood twenty paces apart,
Could have heard a pin drop or a squeaky bum fart,
Big Red had never been beaten at this test,
Some say Dan is the fastest gun in the West.
Not a movement in sight just the steely eyed stare,
Psyching each other out with a glare,
Big Reds fingers flinched as he chewed on his gum,
But Daniel held firm, didn’t reach for his gun.
Then in an instant Red went for the butt,
Dan had a feeling way deep in his gut,
He moved to the Right as he drew from his belt,
Two shots rang out, the hands had been dealt.
Big Red clutched his chest as he fell to the ground,
Daniel moved forward without even a sound,
As the pool of blood beneath Red grew and grew,
Dan shot him again…..To Dare is to Do.
top man
every dog has his day
Top notch.
RazSpur, you are a wasted talent !
Made my morning while putting my porridge away, thanks…
With honour to Raz’s Ode
I suggest next time we go to Old Trafford we Tottenham fans eat tons of baked beans
and have a farting contest with their supporters.
They will be no match for us
On those grounds ,the last thing you need is a match Ron!
There is an old story out there I broke three days late. But the big story is not the Fryers deal.
Its getting Hotby ahead of the arsenal
10 out of 12 points ,Holtby,Fryer’s in,old bluenose in a rage,PURR PURR PURR
there are two principal targets; Mouthinho & Willian. I am disappointed by this as I hope we sign a striker but the move for Villa was never on and Llorente is going to Juventus in July. The signings of Fryers and Holtby have been on since November time and I think they are brilliant additions. If we do get forward, expect it to be the chap from St Etienne or possibly the Gremio forward, Marcelo Moreno who has been scouted extensively
Worry not my friend, Damaio is on his way, our prayers have been answered, we are complete (with Eriksen of course).
i am not happy about this, Moreno is poo!
:Amazed:
You know “I would love it, love it , if we beat them.”
From a founder member of TWATS.
Tottenham With Attitude Too Spare.
Dempsey will be a top player for us in the second half of the season, hope Sig will be the same,Ade needs to up his game as he can be class when in form, other signings would be icing on the cake.
How come they keep showing Coventry’s goals on the BBC from 1987 and not ours? Essexian was right. It’s a horrible feeling losing the FA Cup final. Time for payback a quarter of a century later!
Cause we is Spurs.
F*ck the paedo monarchist bbc.
Now Gareth listen, “I shall zay zees only once”, Go down in ze Heap, Tumble tvice zen gvasp your leg and vimce in agony, don’t be looking at ze Referee, scveam and woll awound as if you haf been shot.
