Live Blog: BIOYOLCS!

Live Blog: BIOYOLCS!

Picture 239

Good evening.

Live blogs I’ve never really understood, to be honest. If anything they take away the immediacy, the fast and loose element that first attracted me to blogs in the fist place. So yes we’re live, but no, there won’t be play by play detail. If you’re not watching the game and need that, then there are places that will undoubtedly vend that sort of thing. But the flavour of the game supplied by the words of the overwhelming majority of us not at the game, but sat in front of our TV sets should do the trick.

Here’s the boss talking to the Spurs Official johhny ahead of the game. It’s great to hear him talking about wanting to cancel out the Lyon goal, reaffirming our solid domestic away form in Europe. A massive game. BIOTOLC!

  1. Good to see Holtby starting!

  2. Full team: Friedel, Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Dembele, Parker, Lennon, Bale, Holtby & Adebayor

  3. Grandad worries the Eyeballer…..

This was a perfect game for Hugo…..

    COYS!

  4. Worried about Friedel in goal. I think we have gotten used to our ‘keeper prowling the edge of the D. And with headless Walker playing its got the embarrassing arms wide open leave it to the keeper routine, only to see Friedel stuck on his goal line and a Lyon player one on one with him…

  5. apparently Bale in the centre doesn’t work for Southgate…
…One wonders what does work for Southgate!

  6. A good early tempo with a solid back four performance. Hopefully Holtby’s passion rubbing off on Ade but ideally a couple of early free kicks central just outside the box. Benny and Walker concentrating would be a good start. COYS.

  7. Looking at who is likely to be going for it tonight i can only pick out a double,
    Lazio 1/1 & Bordeaux 5/4
Stuttgart 6/4 may well prove to strong for Gent

  8. Does anyone have a link to an audio feed? Stuck at work as it’s only 1PM here on the East Coast of the USofA….. COYS!

  9. Defoe back next week then. It’ll be interesting to see wether Adebayor retains his place when Defoes fully fit. Apparently Adebayor hasn’t managed to score a single goal against Lyon despite playing against them 6 times in his career.

  10. Gomis you cheating whore.

  11. Blimey, fair play to Bonzo

  12. I’ve Lyon HT, Spurs FT 28/1

  13. Holtby – the embodiment of eagerness says the bloke.

  14. H, can you get me an audio link? stuck in the office…..

  15. Walker fouls Lisandro, again, and guess what…

  16. Bugger! I guess Bonzo can have the blame for that.

    • Only 1 of the 4 fouls that lisandro was given was actualy a foul the diving twonk and the ref fell for it and others diving every time

  17. 23 was offside. And I’m sure he got a touch if not he is stood right in front of brad.

  18. Free header, beaten at the near post. Am i surprised ?

  19. F*&%*%*&U%*^(*&)(&&))&)(*&)(&)

  20. 3 times now, Walker is likley to see Red before long.

  21. Bonzo is going to end up going for an early bath if he doesn’t get a metaphorical, not physical, grip.

  22. Lyon have targeted Walker.

  23. Really poor retaining posession tonight – lost count of how many times we’ve misplaced a pass in this game

  24. The ref is a twat, giving them everything.

  25. Any team would target Walker

  26. Is this ref going to give any of the 50-50s our way tonight?

  27. I hate this competition, complete waste of time & effort

Lyon are shite, we should beat teams of this standard, only stupidity will prevent us doing so

  28. Is this ref having a laugh

  29. These people invented the horse meat on rye sandwich.

    • I visit france a lot, they give new meaning to the word (unts, only polite when they’re taking money from you

lyon are jokers, parking the bus after 30 mins, can’t believe their fans would put up with that

  30. Can someone tell bloody Brad to lose the punt-ball routine?!!

  31. Well, this is shit.

  32. At least the ITV4 commentary insn’t puerile. That’s the main thing.

  33. Could our midfield be any more ponderous? Could Adebayor be less involved in the game? Could we look more toothless?

  34. I don’t care for our font on the shirts. Futura bold would be far nicer.

  35. Oh dear. When do we kick off?

  36. Go home Ade

  37. So many shite performances so far. Need the midfield to get more creative.

  38. Gomis is a slag

  39. This is a fukcing joke. we havent had a shot yet. Really very poor

  40. F*ck me Bale is hot

  41. Good boy Gareth!

  42. Thank the Lord we’ve got Dempsey to bring on.

  43. ITV4 bus w*nkers

  44. That was very frustrating to watch.

  45. Definitely should be taking some shots, should have learnt from the first leg that Lloris’ replacement is fukcing shite.

  46. Parker, Friedel and Walker no longer good enough…

  47. Great now for a cuppa ! Bound to be better in the second half.

  48. dembele is looking like a pub player, parker can’t pass for toffee

we’re in trouble against the french version of everton

    bale or bust 2nd half

  49. Sandro is the toffee Dembele is the wrapper blowing about in the breeze. More shots please more completed passes please.

  50. Bring fecking Livermore on, can’t do any worse.

  51. Headline : Tottenham Coach tries to leave at Half Time.

  52. I’m sure most goals are scored in the box.
We will choose any excuse not to play it in the box.
Ade loves to run from the box to midfield or left or right wing. Our midfielders don’t like to make runs into the box.
Very simple tactics at some point in our passing moves the ball has to go in the box.

  53. Turning your back is unacceptable.

  54. Townsend would have been a good sub to have.Parker’s not the player he was,Dembele, whats happened to the man?Holtby and Bale, thats it really.

  55. Thankfully my expertly chilled cans of Grolsch are coping well.

  56. Parker off, Holtby back in Parkers slot, Gylfi in Holtby’s place. That shoulod put a bit of quality in midfield

  57. Bale and Holtby the only threat so far, the rest look static and a bit toothless, nead some creativity, something different, get Jan to make some surging runs, someone else has to get envolved.

Parker and Moussa need a hairdryer.

    COYS!

  58. Take Parker off, bring on a centre back and push jan into holing midfield. Parker is shite.

  59. Due to Raz and Frontwheel’s top tipping (watch it) I had a crafty tenner on Spurs tonight. I went for the shite in the first half pance in second half. So far so good.

  60. Parker works hard but gives the ball away..the others look like Spliffmonkeys.

  61. Just before the end of the 1st half, I had an overwhelming desire to book a coach holiday – it’s almost like subliminal advertising – ( legal in France, that’s why they all drive Renault or Citroen and eat things us British consider as pests: well Iceland do at least ) – was used.

    Come On Tottenham

  62. What is the difference between this live blog and the usual dead one?

  63. Parker has been amazing…..controlled that first half from start to finish.
    :Afraid:

  64. live optimism?

  65. Wallop – ish.

  66. bale noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  67. Lyon are rubbish. I don’t care about staying in this competition but if I’m watching our first 11 out there then I want to see them beating this sort of rubbish.

  68. wtf has happend to dembele

  69. dembele has been turned into j**** ffs

  70. What is occurring Ras Clots

  71. They really are a bunch of slippery fuckers

  72. These Lyon cads go down quicker than a woman of ill repute trying to make up the rent.

  73. It’s got to be mental hasn’t it?

  74. That Lisandro Lopez is a right cheating little twerp.

  75. Brad came out of his goal and didn’t know what to do – hilarious, thankfully!

  76. Fried Egg came off his line, honest he did. Nearly cost us, but hey.

  77. Is that our first shot on target?

  78. Relax everybody. It’s time for Da Dump.

  79. Dumpster on now we mean buisness.

  80. GK’s riled, keep it coming, more shots.

  81. So…have I missed anything?

  82. Dempsey = Brace

  83. harry you bet on half win for frogs?, up the fakky Spurs son

  84. Come on, one of Dembele or Parker needs to be hauled off asap for Sig, isn’t this obvious?

  85. Lyon are sponsored by the firm that collect the bins in my street. That’s nice. So does that mean that my council tax is somehow paying these cnuts wages?

  86. Toothless Ponder.

  87. obvious to me mate

  88. Lyon are beginning to shows signs of a lack of concentration. I think we are going to get one soon.

  89. Looks like the team in white have been eating a bit too much cheese… everyone’s off pace! Dembele looks like he’s half in a coma!

    • Dembele only turns up against the big teams, clearly the Europa Cup isn’t a big deal to him. Always seems to play well against the Manchester clubs and Chelsea, never against Wigan.

    • They dont travel well these boys, the group stages showed that. Not to convinced of an equalizer.

  90. Apparently not. Someone explain to me the like-for-like change instead of the different-for-shite change that could have been made?

  91. Does it matter if we lose by 1 or more, why take off Holtby? He can thread a pass, bad sub Andre, should have been Parker off

  92. This game is shite, a good job we weren’t up against a team like Bayern

  93. Give us a goal you slaaaaaaaaaaaags!

  94. Parker is giving the ball away because he has got no options – no one is running for him and there is zero movement up front.

  95. Tell me what Dempsey does?

    Complete bloody waste of time.

  96. Livermore???????????????????????????????????????????

  97. Typical Thursday fare.

  98. About time for our free kick on the D.

  99. Why didn’t deuce swing his knob at that?

  100. Very poor play, nobody running into space, it’s like we’ve got treacle on our boots………..bring Holtby back on!

  101. Get in you motherfucker!

  102. Dembeleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  103. ORGGGGGGGAAAASSSSSSSMMMMMMMMMMM

  104. FUCK MY OLD BOOTS

  105. dembele i apolagise you beautyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  106. Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid!

  107. Bout fucken time ..more of the same…

  108. Inter next. On this performance, oh dear.

  109. I’ve done myself an injury

  110. YouUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Beauttyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…..

Now I know how a deaf person feels during an orgasm!!!!

  111. The boy stepped up. Thought he would.

  112. Job done….

  113. Goodnight you French f*cks!

  114. Well what a result, we now do late goals, but it was a right old scare and not comfy. Well done H, good punt.

  115. HAVE THAT YA FAKIN CADS

  116. Goodnight from Thailand fellow Spurs fans, great result, no bring on the wet spammers

  117. Live blogg worked well- more of the same——Inter next. Great to see a late goal for a change, maybe the belief merchants are getting their message through at the Lodge.

  118. Was never in doubt. Perfect execution of the old sucker punch. Brilliant – those French fucks were floored.

  119. Can we leave Adebayor there?

  120. Ha, that was priceless. Dembele totally hustled them by giving the ball away constantly for 89 minutes, lulling them into a false sense of security when he had the ball, then hit them with a sucker punch. The man’s a genius!

  121. What happened? WHAT HAPPENED? I fell asleep with 7mins to go. When I woke up Liverpool were playing.

  122. Ha ha…I just had a quick scan through this. Hilarious…..Grief, grief, hope – no grief, acceptance, abuse, more abuse, cheating, more cheating, goal!!!!!!!!!!!, Wonderful wonderful wonderful………and rest………………

  123. Good ol’ ITV. Where was the after-match afters. Fowlup and that other geezer who missed a penalty for England saying….well Spurs played the football and got just rewards and Robbie stop sniffing yer dandruff up a straw you sad lad.

  124. Great result no less than we deserved. We have started scoring late goals on a regular basis and we are becoming a very useful team but Walker has to stop being used as a defender. He is all heart but he has no instincts as a defender. He is a wide midfielder playing fullback.

    • Hate to say it but Parker was very poor. You might as well play Ron’s German boy there. He can tackle and put it about. But he can pass and get on with it too. Not Ron of course as he’s way past it but the German lad, Holtby.

    • probably like our boy wonder Bale .Would not like to see Bale defend either.
Walker needs to be guided as to his mistakes, as something is clearly wrong at the moment.

      • What is missing is the instinct of a defender Walker does not have that. He makes mistakes every game and a lot of them cost us. When he gave away the free kick he pushed the bloke over which was totally unnecessary in that position and it led to their goal.

        He keeps costing us

        • Don’t think it was a foul. They were standing next to each other and then suddenly one of them drops like a sack of spuds. I’m no physicist – I’m sure most will be surprised to learn – but I couldn’t see any real force there that would make that happen. The guy was going down at every opportunity and the ref got conned by it.

Mind you, I’m not sure Walker is a defender either. But I think he brings nothing to us as an attacking force other than a vague threat of pace, so I think he’s better off staying there and trying to learn how to defend.

          • If you rewind it you can clearly see Walker push the Geeze with both hands

            • Don’t have the technology, take your word for it

            • he places his hands on him not pushes, the bloke the falls forward as if shoved hard, if you use that rewind again you will also notice he blokes legs gout directly out behind him.

it was a foul but walker should have learnt from the first 2 that it would happen and the ref would fall for it. he is thick but i dont see him as being more thick or more rubbish at defending than cole or johnson were at his age

        • So true mate. He has become a liability, and AVB needs to address this problem.
Still think he has something to offer, as he did last season. for now though he must be rested, and Naughton in his place until Kaboul can play there.

          • stop with the naughton stuff already the leeds game on its own was enough to show that he is no better at defending and does not have the pace to recover from the poor positon like bonzo does

  125. Listened to the last 15 minutes on Talksport, 2 commentators constantly slagging us off and then having to eat humble pie at the end. Priceless!

  126. Bindippers on their way out and Cheatski are a goal down too……turning out all right innit…

  127. Dying Seconds

So we took a lead to the Frenchies back yard,
T’was gonna be tough, tackles would be hard,
Brad was the choice, minder of the net,
No need to worry lads, no need to fret.

Seventeen minutes in Walker fucks up again,
The cross comes over, there’s gonna be pain,
They get a free header, Goal, near post,
Not even a challenge, they wanted it most.

Pressures on now, can we up our game,
No, we’re just serving up more of the same,
Holtby’s gone off, is Dumpster the answer,
Ade sets him up, but he’s not the man sir.

Time running out, we need a Bale free kick,
But they’re fannying about, it’s making me sick,
Into the 90th no ones giving it welly,
To the left of their box, Goal from Dembele.

Bring on Milan, we have no fear,
We won this tie, stuck in second gear,
Once we’ve a service, we’ll be up for the fight,
And the San Siro will be in for one hell of a night.

    • I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
      A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
      They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
      In such a jocund company:
      I gazed–and gazed–but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
      Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
as the Spurs go marching on.

  128. Dempsey, Siggy and Livermore come on. We score. Moussa sends all his staunch suipporters on this blog, his heartfelt thanks for their faithful support!!

Reviewing the prior 200+ comments is truly hilarious!! COYS COYTBHers! Inter is next. The pot is ours, without a doubt!

  129. we need Dembele back in form asap! This was hopefully a boost for him

  130. Bindippers back in it. 2-1 up on the night.

  131. Apparently they’re selling houses in Liverpool for a £1 at the moment. I’m thinking of buying the one next to Gerrard, and playing Chas and Dave hits all through the night.

    • He’s only come round with his mates and beat you up. And then beat the rap…..(as in singing, nothing to do with court cases, honest)

  132. Loved Freidel’s hand gesture to the (untish french fan’s, when the final whistle was blown. That was the icing on the cake, after the abuse they gave him and attacking our fans over there. Who-s-the-man

  133. F#ck the begruders we came away from Lyon with a result, over 60% possession and more shots then the home side. Yet spurs are “saved” by Dembele strike or spurs squeeze into last 16 according to some.
    Well done Newcastle as well.

  134. We play Inter on 7 and 14 March, first leg at WHL, which is a shame.

  135. Bindippers out

  136. Dembele must have passed off a few of the characters around here
Who wanted us to concentrate on the league but according to some we were able to not concentrate on on this a d still go Through.
Maybe we can win it remotely

  137. Suarez was sublime, then he goes and deliberately stands on a guy with his studs.

  138. Oh dear, another trip to Italy for our chaps……..that should be fun? Bully

    • We should take some of our firm over there, i’m sure our nutters would give them something to think about. They only target peaceful fans on a jolly. Have they organised a dust up between our firm and their ‘Ultras’? No, because they aren’t a firm, they’re a bunch of nazi nancy-boy cowards in balaclavas so their mums won’t see them. If they’re so hard they’d front it up and organise it, have we seen these retards in London? No.

Bring it to over to London town and you can all go to G.A.Y after with your faces re-arranged! All 50 of you get your sad little European neo-nazi asses over here and show us what you’re made of. The truth is they’re shit scared of English fans so they only attack when everything’s in their favour. Wankers.

Having said that, probably a bad idea, we’d get kicked out of Europe for protecting ourselves no doubt!!

  139. Mixed up emotions would be putting it mildly. I nearly hit the roof when Moussa scored ( in a good way), then the reality that Liverpool and the Goons have nothing but 4th place to aim for sunk in..Mmmm Milan’s tempting though..?

    • This was another big performance and we are making a habit of them. Liverpool are not good enough for 4th right now and are far too far behind us. If we beat the Arse and the Toffees we really should do it with room to spare.

Do you think The Arse and The Toffees are looking forward to coming to the lane?

      • Not too sure, Everton have the FA Cup to think about, but it’s those scummy buggers across the road that always seem to get the breaks when it matters most-like WBA for example! When you think you’ve got one base covered, they’ll find a way somehow-we just need to get our act together. Parker was absolute toilet tonight, If Livermore played like that there would be blood on the walls-and don’t get me started about BAE, he’s a frickin’ idiot, a liability tonight, but again his ‘performance’ appears to have gone under the radar

        • Yes, what is it about BAE that seems to put him above criticism on most sites? He fannies about in defence, and wastes good opportunities to contribute in attack, and yet he’s ‘Good Old Benny’, the untouchable unofficial club mascot to most posters. I could never understand the adulation that Steve Archibald used to get in the early ’80s either – another player about half as good as he thought he was!

          • He can be very good, but like most things very good somehow translates into brilliant or World Class, which in Benny’s case is laughable. Last night, time and time again he had the chance to get a cross in but chose to take another touch to beat their full back. and ended up losing the Opportunity. We looked far better with Naughton and he’s not ideal, but he’s far less headstrong than Benny, who has been pretty dreadful since his return.

  140. Watching the replay of Mouse’s goal is both sad and instructive. As the ball hits the back of the net, Yid arms fly up instinctively in front of goal, but not Ade’s. When Mouse is mobbed by excited teammates, Ade is not one of them.

    • I feel you could be looking into it too much i reckon. I’m sure Ade will contribute in some key moments before the season is out, i still maintain that he is the best forward at the club and one of the best in the league of his type. On his day he is unplayable and i’m sure he’ll have more days like that for us. I think he gets a bit too much shtick, ok he can be odd sometimes but he’s overly criticised in my opinion.

Pav is still thought of fondly by a lot of our fans which i fail to understand. I thought apart from some crisp finishing he was a total waste of space and lazy as fuck but he’s ‘good old Pav’ scores a goal now again and stands about like a complete tosser… Contributed nothing to the team, Ade has at least shown he can. AVB is behind him cos he understand what a quality player he is.

      • I thought Ade played OK to be honest-He tried, put himself about and made a few great runs and passes, especially the sitter our ‘OMA’ missed early in the 2nd half. My anger for the entire 90 mins was directed at BAE and Parker, both useless and both a liability

        • Parker was poop and the idea that he is anchoring our midfield for our top 4 push feels me with fear.

          • We’re missing the beast for sure, I’m honestly thinking Livermore should’ve been given a start tonight but with a free role, not anchored as he’s been in the past-did you see how more fluent Dembele was as soon as Parker pissed off?

            • Yeah, that’s what I said earlier and meant it. No point in sticking with Parker if he’s going to play like Livermore on ketamine, might as well play Livermore himself, at least he has more energy.

            • It isn’t just the turning over that he’s suffering from, it’s the constant stop, start, look around, pass 6 yards thing which is slowing alot of our potential attacks down to a virtual standstill.

              • Said the same a while back-Moussa’s looking for the quick pass, by the time Scotty’s done a double pike and somersault, taken three touches, the third being his final attempt at a first touch, the moments passed

            • Horses for courses i think, Parker will really suit most games but there have always been games every now and again where it just doesn’t happen for him.

Don’t forget, Kab can play midfield and Jan has played there lots of times for Ajax so with another option (or ‘solution’ in AVB speak) in defence, either one of those could play further forward too. Would like to see Verthongen play there, just to see how he’d do… I think he’d be alright you know.

              • By all accounts, he hates playing there and didn’t entertain The Goon’s as Arsene wanted to play him in DM

                • I didn’t know that, oh well… I’m sure he could do a job if need be though?

It was the same with Ledley, great there but didn’t wanna do it. If you’re a top defender that can play midfield you probably think defence is a less changed position in terms of personnel and better for you to specialise there… You only see a defender replaced in a game if he’s having a total mare or he’s injured. Midfield is tinkered with a lot so it’s harder to cement your place.

Kab would play there though and kick the crap out of everyone, if anyone’s the ‘Hulk’ it’s Kab!!

                  • Yeah, providing he comes back as he left us it’ll be a real welcome back, but of course Defoe’s return is now delayed, so I can’t fathom out loaning Kane to Leicester for the life of me?

                  • May as well have left him at Norwich, at least he might get the of Prem game there. Perhaps he wasn’t playing enough? Is strange though, i thought that was why he was brought back to provide cover. AVB obviously thinks Dempsey can play as a proper striker, that’s what i think anyway.

                  • I think you’re right, and AVB will succeed or fail on this type of call, but I can’t see the sense in it, unless he thinks Pritchard, Lancaster or Obika can step up to the plate?

                  • I guess the manager’s reasoning is that both Ade and Defoe (who’ll be back shortly) are ahead of Kane in the pecking order and it’s more important for his development right now that he plays regularly. There’s probably not much to choose between Kane and Obika right now so send Kane out and keep Obika for emergencies.

  141. Best quote of the night must go to Andy Townsend ‘He a big bloke, a real handful, so powerful-he’s massive, that Hulk!’

    • Hahaha. The fact that his ‘analysis’ and ‘commentary’ does consist solely of him describing what’s in front of him in literal and basic terms does leave him open to this kind of ridicule. Which is about the only redeeming feature of having to listen to him

    • I missed that Essex but not bad from the Plastic Paddy. He’s usually Mr Rent-a-cliche so anything’s an improvement!!

  142. Any highlightist on tv tonight?

  143. Enjoying this, when does the live blog finish HH?

  144. After the collapse of the V Pryce trial, I’m wondering if any of the jury were from around here.

  145. Question Time. If these are the b******s that run our lives, then the result of a football match is the least of our problems.

    • We run our own lives, they just like to pretend they do. They couldn’t run a piss-up in a brewery and they prove it time and time again…

    • Fuckem.

      Fuckem all.

      Fuckem all to hell.

      • I wouldn’t mind but there isn’t even one fit treacle in that horrible little firm.

      • Heseltine looks like something out of “Resident Evil”, Abbott sent her kids to private school, Vince Cable, well the less said about any Liberal Democrat the better, Some religious twerp who thinks his invisible friend will save us and Peter Hitchens who is simply stark staring mad. Really representative, huh? Liar

        • Yes. What is amazing is people still vote for them. People do not want to take responsibilty anymore. Our food is contaminated, education is a shambles and we are monitored for thought crimes. We live in unconcious and ignorant times. But hey we still have the Lillywhites!

  146. Walker (so my wifey told me) tweeted that “there were a few Tom Daley’s out there tonight”. Maybe true, but unless Walker is one of football’s unrevealed homosexuals, it doesn’t explain why he had his hands all over him.

  147. Anzhi Makhachkala v Newcastle United

FC Basel v Zenit St Petersburg

    Benfica v Bordeaux

    Levante v Rubin Kazan

    Steaua Bucharest v Chelsea

    Stuttgart v Lazio

    Tottenham Hotspur v Inter Milan

    Viktoria Plzen v Fenerbahce

  148. Easier draw for Chelski-Russian-Maffia-Scum, plus their owner must have some of the Romanian F.A in his pocket surely? Simples!!

  149. Who needs the CL when you have Inter.

    They must be shakin”

  150. Just watching the game now 25minutes in and Holtby is by far our best man and Parker has lost the ball time and again or doesnt know what to do with it

  151. In my vodka-depressive haze, the last name I THOUGHT I heard before the equaliser was Livermore and spent three minutes jumping around the house like a lunatic thinking Jake had channeled the powers of Baleskull and then — after realising my mistake — spent a further ten minutes giggling at myself for being so silly.

    It’s never dull at Spurs!

  152. And yes, Walker plus Spurs Lodge plus frisbee.

  153. Razstats as follows ;

    Freidel 6
    Walker 4
    Gallas 6.5
    Verts 6.5
    BAE 5.5
    Parker 6
    Dembele 6.5
    Lennon 5.5
    Holtby 7
    Bale 6.5
    Ade 6

Subs, Dempsey 6, Siggy6, Livermore not on long enough to rate.
    Overall team rating 60%
Manager, Freidel starting over Lloris, team selection, Subs & timing 65%

Much room for improvement, caught early from unneccessary free kick, Holtbys great interchange first half, died out second, breaking down teams like this should be bread and butter to us these days. Looking for a big game from most against Inter Milan.

  154. Did you award Dembele 5 for the goal then Raz?

  155. If VB is taking this competition as seriously as he keeps telling everyone, why on earth is he playing Brad?

Friedel didn’t do much wrong last night, if at all, and is still excellent cover, but we’ve got one of the best keepers in the world, why not use him? Seems to be some sort of stubborn, misplaced loyalty. It’s not even as though Friedel wouldn’t understand; he’s probably the most down to earth player in the squad.

Rent-a-gob was accused of not rotating enough, when in fact he rotated almost the entire team when it came to the losers’ cup. VB has been praised for rotating, when he hasn’t rotated much (save the keeper) at all. A lot of that is down to injuries and a squad that isn’t as strong as first thought, but Lloris suffering from burn-out is the least of his problems. Play him every game, FFS!

    • I dont think its to do with burn out.

I think its because of respect, giving Brad the chance.

In my opinion I would have preferred Lloris and he might even have saved the goal but I think it helps the comraderie in general to include Brad.It wasnt a bad move.I just think that Lloris woulld have liked to play.He seems like he wants to play every game (which is good)

      • What helps the camaraderie more is winning games and building a solid understanding at the back. They both have very different styles, with Lloris sometimes playing more as a 5th defender. I don’t see how chopping and changing when unnecessary is going to help. He should be doing what’s best for the club, not for Friedel.

        • I dont think Brad hurt us. Lloris may have or may not have stopped the goal but the bigger porblem was our lack of flow.Everything went through parker and he has no imagination even when somebody is right there.
I cant understand what made Ade wake up in the sevond half.In the first he was totally asleep.

          • How many clean sheets has Friedel kept this year? How many has Lloris?

            The argument ends right there.

            • Thats not the point>Id like to see Lloris play every game but its obvious Brad has been rewarded for his work with the club
In this game Brad was the least of our worries

              • In this game, yes, apart from a couple of hoofs (I have no confidence in his kicking) he did nothing wrong. I don’t think Lloris would have stopped the goal, but if we’re trying to win the competition, it makes no sense at all to play your second best keeper.

                • He actually got very lucky early in the second half when he came to the edge of his eighteen-yard area and didn’t know what to do when he got there. His scuffed clearance would have resulted in a goal if the Lyon striker had had a bit more composure.

              • Of course it’s the point. We are a better team with Lloris playing than without. Only a fool would argue otherwise.

  156. Raz Kyle Walker for me played very well, one of his best games defensively

Holtby played fantastic alwasy making himself available, had at least two wonderful through balls
    worked his arse off pressing

Ade had a diabolical first half but a fantastic second

Vert had one of his better games in the last 4 or 5

Parker had the ball more than any other Tottenham player but really lost the ball a lot and offered littlle in the way of creating.

Dembele had an anonymous game apart from a fantastic goal

Everyone else was pretty well MIA

    • Walkers 2nd foul on 17 mins gave away another unnecessary free kick, using the arms far too much, his 3rd foul minutes later was again stupidity, lucky to stay on the pitch.
Ade was better 2nd half, 2 great balls, hardly fantastic though Ron, that’s what we pay him for.
Holtby was shot after the hour mark, VDV mark 2.
Verts is nowhere near his early season form, that’s a worry.
Parker had little effect but then where were the players running into space ?
Dembele ditto, Bale, Lennon and Ade need to make space for the pass, it didn’t happen.

      • Walker fought tooth and nail with Lisandro and came off the winner.
I think he had his best game of the season.Nobody is perfect and he hasnt been at times but this was his best game defemsively I felt

Ade gets paid but they all get paid. Maybe two great balls but his quality showed out in the second and again its relative also to the others who didnt do much.Lennon and Bale together had the quiestest game theyve had all season.

Holtby ran into space the whole game and pressed the whole game.Sure he was knackered everyone else was walking like it was sunday in July in Hyde park

Verts at least showed more than he has done in a while. It would be interesting to know why?

I can see with Parker that he has no ability to spot anyone. He is great from side to side to side to side and then passing 5 yards

        • Bar Holtby who was available for Parker or Dembele to lay off to ? How could they push forward ? After 30 minutes Lyon parked the Bus, we even saw it clearly on 43mins.

          • when Parker has no insight oif what to do he goes from side to side laterally, then the defence is really fixed.Holtby always ran back to a position and Parker should have just laid it in on for him every time and he would have found players going forward. He sees the play develop.Parker is totally fucking blind.A worker and a hard worker but fucking blind

            • Dembele is more straight ahead but still still little vision and creartivity but a stronger player than Parker.
He too cant run an attack.
Holtby is a kid and maybe doesnt get respect yet but I think he will but I wish sooner rather than later. He sees the space and sees the play develop and does twoce the amount of runing as most of the team.

            • Holtby was good for an hour, not great Ron, can’t pace himself for 90 mins. He will learn but at least he has passion and drive.
Parker had to stall play to allow others to make space, better that than 50/50 passes, didn’t look great but served the purpose, better than losing posession.

  157. AVB must decide if we are to go for the Europa or not, brad cannot be the choice against Inter if Lloris is fit. For the first leg we must be in the Ascendancy and that means High Line pushing forward, pressing, we must take a lead to the San Siro, hope Kaboul is fit and back to his best by then.

  158. Did anyone else (apart from Harley, that is) notice that our goal came after Parker had left the pitch?

  159. Ade’s second half perfomance was a vast improvement,he plays a lot better when he’s not trying to smile for the cameras. If he can start games like he did against the scum but with a more controlled head,he might proove to be our winner, and put egg on a lot of faces, mine included.

    • His second half wasn’t that good, but it couldn’t have been any worse than his first. I don’t understand where he’s playing. We had Benny getting down the left, Lennon, the right, Bale had carte blanche, Holtby was sort of on the left and Adebayor kept popping up on the wings or too deep in midfield. No one in the box or making runs into the box = not many goals.

  160. I’ve seen a few comment about Verts playing DM and that being countered with he turned down The Arses as they wanted him to play there. Well maybe he really meant “I don’t want to play for a shite team”.

If you watch Verts in open play starting from the back, he tends to start to run forward and then checks, stops and realises he’s a CB and mustn’t venture forward. It’s like he wants to go forward but knows he’s not allowed to.

If his natural instinct is to run out with the ball, like he did when he scored that magnificent goal against Man U, then maybe he needs to play there. Maybe his unsettled period was/is down to the fact thathe isn’t happy/comfortable in the CB position.

I don’t have a f@cking clue to the inner workings of the AVB tactics machine, but to most on here it seems obvious he hasn’t been happy and maybe the DM role is the position where he can contribute the most for his team.

I think he would make a great DM and suspect his Arse rebuff was a polite brush off.

    COYS!

  161. Can’t believe anyone would argue that Parker kept giving the ball away because nobody was receiving his passes properly – more or less what seems to be being put forward here and there. Him and Dembele turned it over all night and neither were very good at all but Parker was extra shit because he wants to have the ball for about 30 seconds in a standing position, dithering away before he decides to make the first pass that was on to him after all. He doesn’t need to look up and find someone in space, or look for a killer ball that he isn’t able to deliver anyway, he needs to receive it and give it to someone else quickly.

  162. The Eyeballer thought BAE was our worst player last night – he looked like he didn’t care, he had ‘so what’; written all over his smug mush…. how many times could he have crossed the ball in and then dithered back onto his right, back to his left, cross blocked.

The Eyeballer would play Lloris in goal for the rest of the season, sorry Brad, but its business time

The Eyeballer likes Lennon, twice now he has tweeted about wishing the travelling support safe passage home – he cares, although he probably would have been better off on the terraces last night

Jumping the gun a bit, but with the Goon Squad and the Bin Dippers ahead, The Eyeballer thinks AVB should consider the following personnel: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Caulker, BAE, Walker, Carroll, Parker, Holtby, Siggursson, Ade…….

….with Bale and the cavalry on the bench

    • I can’t recall ever seeing Benny looking enthused. He’s too cool for school that bloke. Just come out of a lengthy injury so I’ll reserve judgment for a few more games.

  163. With all due respect to the many experts on TBH, I would point out that we played the team lying third on points in Serie A dead even in the fall, and now have taken the measure of the team lying 2d in ligue 1. That and are unbeaten now in 10 or is it 11 games.

The quality of the competition has something to do with the success of your own play. Watching yesterday’s game from the comfort of a downtown Cincy Brew Pub, I saw our lads fight a very good Lyon team to a draw. While Lyon did park the bus for a while in the first half they counter attacked a great deal in the second and our defense was solid except for Brad’s one misadventure coming to the edge of the box. Obviously uncharted territory for him. Bale was obviously trying very hard, and if Holtby and Lennon were lifted it was because they were both knackered. I can’t understand why there is so much antipathy to PNB unless it is because you rosbifs get weary of flogging poor Yankee Deuce who is being asked to play 4 or 5 separate roles instead of one, as he did very successfully at Fulham.

Finally, I must part company with HH on Bonzo. I thought he held up well yesterday. In trying to focus on the replay of their goal what I saw was el nuevo Ronaldo, the boy Bale standing like a post next to the goal scorer, doing absolutely nothing to get in the guy’s way. Preparing to shake hands with him on the goal, but nothing else.

In sum while we should sure use more goals, things are holding up very well. With the 90th minute heroics against MU,and now Lyon twice, perhaps we have a team of destiny on our hands.

    Or maybe not.

    • Hey Cincy I agree with you about those teams we’ve played. Lazio and Lyon are rocking around in the top of their respective leagues and we have been even if not better than both at times. (assuming that the 3 or 4 goals that were ruled offside were actually good, we would have embarrassed Lazio). Anyway, we may not be playing all out attack football but were are playing to the end of the game and getting results.

I am up here in Columbus, OH. There seems to be a the beginnings of a Yid Army in Ohio! COYS!

      • CBus–Buckeyes think alike. Thanks for putting your shining oar into the muddy waters of TBH land. And you are right about Lazio. As I recall, one of those goals that was improperly disallowed was by our own persecuted Deuce. These Brits will yet learn to appreciate quality.

        Or maybe not.

        • From a Yankee accusing Brits of not knowing quality when The “good ol U S of A” has been and always will be about quantity is a fine thing. Eat as much as you want friend.

          • Mini, A clever retort indeed. You missed my mild optimism about the ability to learn of the Brit football watching public. I guess you were part of the “maybe not” group of uneducables I fear are out there.

            Or maybe not.

        • I’ll appreciate quality when I see some from him. He’s out of his depth. Fulham is about his level and where he ought to have stayed.

          • The problem with labeling a player “Fulham quality” or “Spurs quality” is that the player is still playing against 16 of the same teams this year as last. Thus Deuce got 17 goals last year against 80% of the same teams, and that with an inferior squad backing him up.

The pertinent questions are a) has he declined that much in a year?; b) is he being asked to do things he can’t or doesn’t want to do?; or c) is management happy with the role he has been asked to play and is playing.

I guess it is currently c).

Bale and Defoe are the “stars” of this team. Others are asked to play a supporting role. AVB seems to be happy with Dempsey’s role. He certainly plays him enough.

I guess I am taken aback by the antipathy a lot of you show to Dempsey, Parker and others who have played for other teams, including Gallas being marked forever as a Gooner. Ridiculous. Spurs are having a great season so far, and I for one am enjoying it. I hope you are too.

            • I should have said 15 teams. 3 of last years teams were relegated. Dempsey did not play against Fulham last year. This year, despite the belief of the vociferous on this blog he is not playing against Tottenham. Thus his production against 15 teams can be weighed very easily, and the same questions I have posed elsewhere would still apply.

Many factors affect a player’s production, not just the shirt they are wearing. AVB had no problem bring Dempsey on in favor of a tired Holtby last night. But then AVB seems to like Livermore also. I guess AVB’s poor personnel decisions are why we are so close to relegation this year. . . .

          • To be fair TMWNN he hasn’t had the kind of service he was getting at Fulham. Maybe because of the class of players around him, could be struggling with learning our style. But I believe he will come good.

            • I wonder sometimes whether AVB is trying to cram too much thinking into the lads. They don’t generally play as spontaneously as they did last year. We are at about the same level, but the wins aren’t as pretty, and we aren’t blowing many teams out. Over studied? Maybe.

I still think we are missing an organizing genius in midfield. I like Holtby, but am beginning to think he is not quite the cat’s pajamas that Ronnie thinks he is.

              • Holtby’s good mate. He’s just in and looking the part already. He’s also young and has fire in his belly.I think personally he is in the wrong position at the moment. Our football isn’t as swashbuckling as last year thats correct but our organisation and defense has improved tenfold.

                • You’re right about the organization and the defense. I hope you are right about Holtby. Where would you play him?

Gotta run. I’ll check out your answer when I get back.

                  • Whilst Sandro’s out. Put him where Parker has been filling in. He won the ball loads yesterday but had no one around him to pick the loose ball up. When Sandro’s back though dont know.

              • I still think we are missing an organizing genius in midfield.

I agree, the spontaneity is not so prominant however I believe that Modric filled that gap to create that and it has not been replaced.

    • I don’t think Walker is up to it at all. He didn’t do anything particularly dire but he’s not very bright is he? And you need to keep your wits about you when facing tricky wingers and forwards. Too naive and too much contact, played right into their hands. Lyon aren’t the only team who’ll embellish and dive their way to victory. He gifted a team hell bent on parking the bus with a free kick in a dangerous area. The player he was marking had his back to goal and had nowhere to go. He did the same at cheatski. He’s not learning.

      • But surely it’s more a case of unlearning rather than not learning? His double award winning season of 2011-12 added to his progress through the England squads suggest that he is worse now than at any point during the last few years. So who is at fault, if that is the right word? Logic tells me it’s a manager/coaching/tactical issue rather than Walker’s talent and reading of the game simply disappearing.

Could be that he’s now being asked to play in a way he has never been asked to play before and he can’t make the switch. Or perhaps ABV% is asking him to get forward more, causing problems at the back. If so, why hasn’t he dealt with the problem? It’s the managers job to spot problems, assess them and solve them.

We have an alternative Kyle who is not being given a chance so maybe ABV%’s assessment of Walker is quite different to our Harry’s.

        It’s all one big mystery.

        • His crazy pushing and arms out on the right last night are just plain stupid moves, 3 times in the first 20 mins, got a yellow but if booked for the second could have been off.
Someone had a word at HT as he toned it down but a pro should not get wound up so easily.
You can’t coach anti-stupidity but you can warn him it won’t be tolerated.

  164. The papers are becoming hilarious. Just read that Real Madrid want AVB now. The thing is I’ve gone from getting angry at the crap these idiots write to grinning from ear to ear. Because now I know its utter jealousy. They can’t stand the fact Spurs are a top four side and are trying everything to unsettle it. Lets see how long it takes them to have Sandro up for RM or Barca.

  165. Saturday football Raztips ;
    Everton 11/10
    Coventry 10/11

“including Gallas being marked forever as a Gooner”

Not on my radar that thought process. In the good old days, players stayed at clubs for longer periods, but now, they move about all the time, and imho, if you wear the Spurs shirt, you get my support, unless of course you are Joey Barton (thankfully we never signed him) or of that ilk.

My issue with Gallas would be that he is off the pace. I saw him pushed up the field in 2nd half, when we went looking for the goal, Verts going forward would have been preferable.
