Lyon Tamers Of The World Unite! A Madrigal, A Minor & A Mallard

Hello fully paid up subscribers to this channel. There’s a nasty rumour going round that Gareth Bale is in actual fact world class after all. The suggestion is that a number of fools, ne’er-do-well’s including me got it wrong when suggesting earlier this week that the boy Bale was no more than a youth chancing his arm. A windmill tilter. We didn’t. He’s like Kiss’ 1974 album, Hotter Than Hell.’ Whilst one swallow might make for a cracking night out, it doesn’t make a summer.

Who knows? what we do know with absolute certainty is that what looked very much like an impermeable 0-0 draw became a 2-1 win. The away goal isn’t wonderful, but neither is it dreadful. And so to the ratings!

BradKing of Brads. Ace of Friedels. Can we really dissect their goal and call him a statue? Perhaps not. Or perhaps yes, it’s so complicated this analysis thingy.

BonzoHello old friend. You were good when you kept it simple (1st half) and not good when you went into Bonzo mode in the second. Silly billy, Bonzo. Where’s the frisbee? Who wants a treat?

BillyAh, the old hate figure come good. No, your hate was simply misdirected in the first place. A wise choice from the boss. Who do you play in a potentially threatening European game? A man with an appropriate CV.

JanMore like his old self. More like a guy who’s looking to win stuff. This again was a case of the right game for the right player, as with Billy. But we really need him focused and as dynamic as he can be for every game.

BennyA game marred by slackness, if he was a bladder, he’d make wet shoes. I hoped that the A&E years were behind us. They clearly ain’t.

ScottyI’d have rested him. This was a game he should have skipped.

MoussaAnother game of glimpses. Better, but glimpses, nevertheless. Whilst he was certainly more fluid than some on his recent Premier League outings, there’s more in there. This was 68% Moussa.

Azza His 2nd shy away performance on the bounce, yes, I am keeping note. This little love needs to stop with the cameo appearances and routinely turn it on. It’s only n hour and a hlf a week. Not too much to ask, is it?

BaleIf you remove 2 of the greatest free kicks ever taken by a human being, then he was average. That’s exactly how awful he was in the shirt. Apart from being a stellar talent he did little. A disgrace to the firm. Will the Saints take him back?

AdebayorHe was a guy really trying to make up for lost time and a credit to him for that.

HoltbyWell, the boy’s mustard. I think AVB is worried about him, wants to play it cool, all that jazz. Fair doos. But nobody is going to stop this lad. Nobody.

  1. am i first?
ade – not sure how to rate him, but 1 thing for sure, oppo defences get preoccupied by him allowing bale etc to do damage. cld do with some goals but even if he is lolling about ade does bring something.
holtby is indeed the full (ok, half) english hellmans, a top top lad, he dont take any s**t.
    bale schbale.

    • I know how to rate Ade- he was absolute sh@$e, pure and simple. He should have stayed in Africa for a few more weeks. At least we wouldn’t have to pay for this useless cr@p. I’ve seen cows with a better touch and more enthusiasm.

      • it should have been yooooooouuu……..

        • I’m not gonna go there. I was actually excited to have him on the team initially, however after the cr@p he pulled during contract negotiations this became absolutely predictable. He’s a bad apple, pure and simple. I hope he’ll prove me wrong but I’m not holding my breath. Having said that, I don’t wish senseless violence and death on anyone.

  2. get in, first!

  3. I think living in Kerry has had an effect on me,Kerry football fans only get excited for the GAA all Ireland on the day of the final,That’s how I feel about the Thursday night cup and maybe why I seen the game in a totally different way to you.Walker was better than you say and Ade needs a slapping.

  4. Am I not allowed to comment on your blog for some reason?

  5. Ohh, there we go, email banned??

Anyways, my post that did not go through:

“ScottyI’d have rested him. This was a game he should have skipped.”

Agree to an extent. Livermore should have started, and Parker coming on based on performance.

Bale summed it up well though, it looked like a sluggish effort. Although Dembele’s pass to Ade was sumptuous to say the least, it had goal written all over it.

    • No, email not banned.

What is wrong with people like you? Why would the world be out to get a nobody? Go away, you idiot.

      • Well, when I have to change the email in order for a post to go through, I am under the assumption that there is an issue. Or is that an idiotic thing to assume?
And how did you come up with the idea that I believe people are out to get me? Are you self-conscious? A sociopath? An autistic? Or all of the above?

And what conclusion do you have on “people” like me? What group do I fall into? Please, enlighten me with your undoubted wisdom and maturity. Because, clearly, I’m an idiot, right?

        You
        Must
        Be
        A
        Genius?

        Nope, just mentally incapacitated.

  6. The Big News: NEWS —> David Bentley has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

  7. Pretty boring game yesterday except for 3 cracking goals. Not sure on the ratings this week Harry…think your bet threw you off abit.

Thought Walker had a much better game and looked alittle more self assured. Some nice defending 1st half and actually looked effective when attacking.

A&E looked alittle sharper, dont think he deserved his ‘slackness’ tag…and yes, that little bit of skill in the corner where he made their winger look silly does cloud my judgement…but it was poetry.

Also, not sure where you got Ade’s review from?? If thats him making up for lost time…WE ARE LOST! Not playing with his usual smile and has the touch of a pedofile. Just being tall and putting off defenders abit doesn’t really count, I want the old Ade back!

A solid unit though, especially at the back. Lets hope we can do them on the counter…we play better away from home :-)

  8. Gallas was pretty good for the most part, but his none too convincing clearance played a big part in their goal.

    • Disagree, the clearance was decent as the cross was dangerous and he got reasonable distance on it. It was bad luck that it fell to their left back in miles of space (where were the other defenders at the time?), and even worse luck still that he cracked off a wonder goal.

  9. The Lyon No.6 had Ade in his pocket – outdoing him for speed and the muscular stuff.
Noted in commentary that Ade was trying so hard he was frequently ran into the back
of the net before the winger’s cross arrived into the six yard box.
Loving the Holtby attitude – very competive like Scotty but with attacking skill.
We were busy – they were busy; but the keepers were not busy.
A week to rest. We can get through – we’ll need a goal over there. Then Inter, it seems.

  10. Posted this on the last blog, but it’s worth repeating I think.

Just switched on Talkshit, and guess what the big debate is? Durham is really surpassing himself, his points are, in no particular order (because they seem to come out randomly depending on what’s been said immediately prior):

Bale is the best player in the premier league right now
Bale isn’t even that good and he’s never been consistent
The most accurate comparison to Bale is Walcott, they are a similar level, not Ronaldo
Bale is a great player and great players play for great clubs, which is why he has to leave
Spurs are a one man team, the rest of the squad is on a par with Stoke or Swansea, and we would be in mid-table without Bale
If AVB was any good he would be winning the league right now as he has the premier league’s best player and all his tactics are is to tell the rest of the team to give Bale the ball.
Holtby might be quite a good player but not that good, the same level as Stoke
    Adebayor is useless
Bale is on a completely different level to where he was last season and so that follows that Spurs should be higher up the table obviously.
But not that much higher up the table as without Bale we would be in mid-table

    And so on.
Btw I didn’t make any of these up.

  11. It must be said that for the most part it was a pedestrian performance…Moussa/Parker combination makes for a dull midfield resulting in I think about 2 or 3 truly forward incisive/dangerous balls, one of which Ade managed to make a hash of.

Billy/Verts combination helps make up for the other kids in the line when they go AWOL, we’d never get too far in the CL with this defensive set up I fear.

AvB took a big risk with Brad, if he’d let in a sitter he’d been mullered by the media and us of course, and thankfully the intersteller overdrive that beat him was unstoppable, however I’d like to see Hugo between the sticks for the rerturn if only out of respect, and the fact that we can’t afford to let another bugger in…

I’m fully behind AvB, but my only criticism is that he needs to shake things up earlier and get subs on 15 mins before…it was clear to all and sundry that we’d fallen asleep practically early into the 2nd half. He’s shown too much caution, understanderbly with everyone on his case, and should get more aggressive with his tactics.

Like Ron I’m a big Holtby fan and his running and laying off caught others out that lack his imagination…in time and with more similar style and passionate players around him he’ll grow into a Bale like Legend, let’s hope. Maybe Siggy will feed off him if they get decent time together.

All in all, a great result whatever way you look at it and we go to France with the fact that they have to come out and get to us…the dream stays alive.

  12. Wow… Duece was as invisible in your ratings as he was on the field….

Honestly believe weekend off is a blessing…. PNB, Moussa and the invisible #2 look gassed…..

Otherwise pretty much spot on. Actually saw the Kyle do some good on the defensive side….

  13. No rating for Clint? Granted he was pretty forgettable last night.

  14. I was at the games yesterday, one thing that really stood out for me was the difference in quality between the two teams strikers. Gomis at times gave the CB’s a round around. He was quick, strong and a bit of nuisance.

Ade on the other hand was the complete opposite, first touch appalling, passes were terrible, looked flimsy and no threat at all of scoring. He did work hard chasing down the defenders but that was it.

Gomis probably being on less then half the wages Ade is annoys me but also gives me faith that a all round striker (also better then defoe) is not that hard to find.

Dont even get me started on Dempsey – a squad player a best for spurs side pushing to be a competitive champions league side.

    • We were linked to Gomis for a little while. Agree, he did look a handful. Ade giving defenders the runaround seems to be a very distant memory unfortunately…

  15. I give Clint a break now and again, the Deuce likes that…

  16. Totally agree, particularly with clint dempsey evaluation.

  17. Freidel 7
    Walker 7.5
    Gallas 6.5
    Verts 7
    BAE 7.5
    Parker 7
    Dembele 7.5
    Lennon 6.5
    Dempsey 5
    Bale 8.5
    Adebayor 6

Subs : Holtby 7, Siggy 7, Livermore not on long enough to rate.

AVB, substitutions at the right times to maintain tempo.

    Overall performance 69%.

  18. Harry has fooled us all.
Instead of the usual analysis of the players, and the subsequent attack by the populace on Harry’s view, Sir Harry has scored a pre emptive attack on said Bloggers.

So in that vein I bring you the latest app the boy H has to offer (no not Holtby)
    It’s called Rating the Raters……

    Legit. 4

Essexiann 7.5, ( the Basildon judge)

BC 8.2, (not the rating but the time of the train coming in to Fen church street))

RAZ 10, (not the score but how much he won on two free kick goals in one game by a world class free kick taker

  19. RAZ good one but are you rating Bale on his open field play alone or are you counting the at least one voal?

    • All players rated on game time, had Bale not scored those 2 set pieces his score would have been 7. So there is much room for improvement all round and the Two Traffic Cones need a proper F***ing Rocket.

  20. But Holtby man 7 ???????

    • I said after WBA that Holtby needs to show a bit of composure, urging the fallen lyon to get to his feet in front of the Ref is not so smart, he needs to walk away.

      • As for Mel said the man is God and can do whatever he likes.
Holtby will stop diving and play acting in his lifetime
Which won’t be long if he keeps instigating.
Holtby definitely has an affinity with Spurstacus in that regard

  21. 15 !!!!!!!!

  22. That guy who plays on the left is pretty good, right? Although he didn’t score during open play he did convert two free kicks excellently. Must of watched them about a bazillion times the first one is perfect. That dip towards the far post made it incredibly difficult for the keeper to judge.

  23. Definitely spot on about Bale – overrated and that tap in he missed – should have had a hat-trick – back to Southampton fr you – and I will pay for the ears

  24. Friedal – Retirement Class
    Walker – Nursery Class
    Gallas – Vintage Classe
    Jan – Back to class
    Benny – Class Clown (lol)
Lennon – Always first in class
    Parker – Working Class
    Dembele – Executive Class
Dempsey – Kiss My American Class
    Adebayor – Late for class
Holtby – A touch of Class
    Taffy – World Class

  25. Some general observations…..
Watching Scotty & Gareth perform Swan Lake in the first 15 mins. forced me to open a second bottle of the vin rouge!
Holtby should have started the 2nd half.
AVB gave OL far too much credit in the pre-match verbage. I live in France and, believe me, Ligue 1 is dire.
One lucky shot & I think maybe one or two half chances?

  26. I really liked Holtby’s mad moment when he told their player to stop rolling round, and then told him again, and again………love the passion, although that kind of thing could get him carded.

Was a pretty dull game apart from 3 cracking goals and they will be up for the return leg, we’ll need to play better than that to get a draw/win.

Bale, still in Business Class but got upgraded for free last night to First.

HH, Walker, by no means was sublime last night, but he outshone Ade, who was tosh, as was Deucey Lucy. Siggy and Holtby deserve more of a run out.

  27. Can someone let me know who’s Spurs 3rd Choice keeper?

  28. Oh right I heard it was a schoolboy. Thanx.

  29. 72 mins gone Spurs Yth 4 Bolton W Youth 6 (FA Yth Cup 5th Round)

  30. I’m watching something on TV where a Stockport County fan got stuck in a Man U decorated house. Surreal. Crazy-Tounge

  31. talkin of tv..Fatboy in Enders wears Spurs gloves when he’s on the market selling his tat. and Derek RIP wore a nice grey Spurs dressing gown. and yes martin fowler had spurs stuff on his bedroom wall back in da day. and roxy was giving it some spurs in a debate with alfie and the moronic moon bros.

    • Yes that’s right. Fatboy also had a Spurs mug when he was behind the bar. And one day the evil Phil Mitchell picked it up and twirled it round in his hand and I thought that the b*****d was going to smash it but he put it back down on the counter.

    • Roxy’s uncle in real life is Alan Sugar.

      Seriously, i ain’t lying.

      • true

billy & phil mitchel, west hams finest..
at least you cant accuse the moronic Moon Bros of being glory hunters, they are Orient boys.

  32. By all accounts an abbattoir in Tottenham’s been raided with health officials looking for dead horse meat-now I know for certain that Bentley and Jenas are not at new clubs, but Kipros Papandreau’s new kebab’s are selling rather well as dead donkey meat’s OK apparently?

    • I wish Harold of the Hotspur would do a historic article of Jenas at Spurs. I bet he’s another that divides opinion. My memory of him was not all that bad!

  33. One minute it’s “A horse, a horse, my Kingdom for a horse” and 500 years later it’s please collect your ticket from the kiosk.

  34. tv angle did not make for good viewing.

  35. Bale has been studying aerodynamics this is grossly unfair to goal keepers especially hard on the regular thick footballer.http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/378003/Bale-knuckles-down-for-glory

  36. IM glad we are not in the FA Cup this weekend.I mean how many free kicks can be take in one week

  37. Le Ar5e fans didn’t pot a single shot on Soccer AM, in fact Helen Chaimberlaine had to tell them that the only one they did hit was in the wrong hole….. Sounds about right for them I’d have thought
