Hello.
All go, eh? Gareth Bale has a couple of good games and you’d think they’d discovered some lad as good as Lionel Messi playing for Peterborough United. The whole situation is ridiculous, but then we live in an age where fast food isn’t quick enough and if you lose half a dozen games, well you’re toast or at least as popular as those naffing awful breakfast biscuit things they’ve brought out.
Bale’s not world class. But he is an extraordinary talent who, if he stays at Spurs will almost certainly realise his potential. Perhaps then he might want to weigh up his options. Right now if he moved he’d be charting the same course to Notquiteland that Berbatov and Modric made before him.
John Hartson has advised Bale to get himself off to Real Madrid. Unsurprising advice from a man who’s own career got as close to Spain as drinking San Miguel, sitting on a wall outside Luton job centre . Once terminally ill, now terminally dull. Ian Rush, who was an outstanding footballer has suggested Bale stay put. I hear that Keith Harris and Orville are being interviewed as we speak and their advice will be in next week’s Woman’s Own magazine.
Bale’s a contract until 2016 or something, so until he goes on strike we’ll be fine until then. Probably.
Defoe has got himself in a muddle with da laydees again. When we don’t know. The tale of two scrubbers having it away with a reported £200,000 worth of jewels and clothes from a party at his mansion is being spun all over the web but nobody’s bothered to share when it took place. It is alleged that death threats were made, not by Defoe by some 18 year old trying to retrieve the bling and tings. Nice.
On an upbeat note, that Holtby’s good stuff. Every interview so far has echoed the enthusiasm he’s shown on the pitch. He needs to be well looked after that lad. He’s a bright future ahead of him.
I played in the Europa League last season with Schalke. We went to the quarter-finals. But Tottenham are able to do big things, I’m not saying that if we don’t get the Cup we’ll be disappointed, but I think we have the team and squad to get that trophy and we’re confident.

If Bale isn’t world-class, in your esteemed opinion, who is? Most people in the game would assert that he is exceptional and despite your usual critique of the player not sticking to the wing, it would seem that roving role is one he is quite good at. Probably why we are here debating and our manager is getting the best out of a world-class talent. Oh, and saying he isn’t as good/consistent as Ronaldo or Messi does not mean he is not world-class. COYS.
Anyone aspiring to be on a par with Ronaldo is not world class.
He is trying to be as good …but not yet there.
He will be. Eventually.
Does that explain it sufficiently?
so Xavi isn’t either then as for the last number of years only Messi has been as good, if one goes by the Ballon D’or? comment please.
What’s the Ballon D’or got to do with anything. Only one player per year can win that.
Xavi is world class. Iniesta, too.
You think Bale is consistently as good?
“Consistently” is the key word there.
Bruxie, you’re trying to apply logic to a debate with someone who has over invested emotionally.
But by that logic there can’t be a single player in the prem that is world class, based on the fact no one has shown any real consistency.
All I know is, if there was a big premiership sale and RVP, Rooney, wilshere, Silva and Bale were all on it, it would be Bale that would attract the most interest.
Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Ronaldo.
Consistently brilliant.
He might attract a lot of attention.
Bale will become world class with a better players around him.
Sad for us…but true.
But so would RVP and Rooney.
Silva and Wilshire less so.
Bruxie I agree in that don’t think Bale is world class just yet, but I also think that the fact he is aspiring to be as good as Ronaldo is a poor example of proof of this. The only player as good as or better than Ronaldo in common thinking is Messi, so by your logic there are therefore only two world class players in the world. I believe Bale will one day be regarded as world class but I would be surprised if he is ever as good as Ronaldo.
Sorry, but that is nonsense. Whatever you think of Ronaldo’s showboating, attitude etc he is by any calculation one of the top 5 players in the world and in most peoples’ eyes he is no2. Aspiring to be like Ronaldo does not preclude you from being world class.
I would put it this way – Bale’s recent form has been world class. There is no finite answer for how long he has to keep it up to be considered a world class playe, but he must be getting close. In previous years he would have failed the consistenycy test
He is a very good player but he is not word class, for two main reasons. First he is not “yet” consistent enough, he has too many game when he goes missing. Secondly, he only shines when conditions on the pitch suit him, i.e. when he has space to run into. A truly world class player can shine under almost any situation and doesn’t need a “when” condition to shine. Watch Messi !!
Messi is the best player that ever lived. Ronaldo has quiet games too. Bale is world class. Meaning, he would get into a 22 man squad of the worlds best players today. Yes sir.
Messi is without the best player of his generation, currently the best player in the world but it’s ridiculous to say he is the best player ever, did you see Duncan Edwards, George Best, Pele or Eusabio play.
Messi would piss on them.
Thats about what i expect from you.
Hah! Holier than thou eh, Razspur? There’s a vacancy going at the Vatican.
Define ridiculous? Comparing across generations is impossible really, but Messi would be in any sensible conversation around the best player ever. Duncan Edwards would not – he only played a couple of years
Exactly. The game is more technical, more athletic and the general skill level higher than ever before. I think if Messi was around in 1970, doing then what he does week in, week out now, people would have thought an alien had landed.
I completely agree in regards to Messi, no other player in the world is or was as constantly brilliant as he is week in week out. Maybe Scott Parker, but definitely no one else…….

Ask an Argentinian if they consider Messi over Maradonna? I think you’ll be surprised LLL!
Matt,
“Oh, and saying he isn’t as good/consistent as Ronaldo or Messi does not mean he is not world-class.”
So what you’re saying is I’m not allowed to argue a case against you? He’s not on the same level as those too. Right now, he is a lesser player. He’s won nothing. Therefore, he ain’t world class.
He scores for Wales against far better sides, does it regularly for us so I beg to differ. My dad thought Martin Peters was better than Alan Ball, doesn’t mean they both weren’t up there. I would opine that Bale would walk into any Prem team and both Barca and Real, as i think would everyone in the industry. Turning it on as regularly as he does for us in a mediocre team – take him out and see – makes him stand out. Therefore he is world class.
In order for the term ‘world class’ to have any meaning it has to be exclusive. Extending it to include the merely ‘very good’ (such as Xavi and Iniesta) diminishes its meaning and ultimately results in the sort of situation whereby clods like Hansen and Shearer describe any half-decent piece of football as ‘sensational’.
Exclusivity, in your opinion, means that only two people in the entire world can be considered world class. That’s madness. Iniesta was rated second in the world in the new AP rankings. Bale made third ahead of Messi (also madness). Is that objectively fair? No. But to have a level of skill in the top 10 of all men on the globe? Yea, that’s world class. Why can’t we extend world class to people like Iniesta, Falcao, Bale, maybe Xavi? Your club of 2 may be above and beyond the rest, but they are among the top best players to ever play the game. That is not a fair standard
The worlds World and Class are used together far too often to describe really good players nowdays. It helps their agents get more wages for their client and higher transfer fees to increase their own cut.
To determine world class you need to look at the whole world and do it for each position choosing 2 players for each position and then see if X player gets into being picked
if he doesnt then he is not world class in his own generation simples (Well not really hence the debate)
Bale is not yet world class but he is getting there
I would have thought ‘world class’ means that EVERY single team on the planet – club or country – would want said player in their line-up.
Based on that criteria is he world class?
Define world class?
Messi, Ronaldo and possibly van Persie. The list ends there. Bale is currently in the second tier that includes talents such as Yaya Toure and Silva. He has the potential to join the other two/three but is not there yet.
That’s not really a clear definition now is it, that’s your opinion as to who is World class and you’ve left out the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Falcao, Pirlo and others.
I would argue that World Class is a player that would get into the teams of the best sides in the world (International and Club level) and I think Bale would get into the best sides!!
World class to me means exceptional. As far as I’m concerned that description only applies to three players right now. I don’t dispute that the players you have named are very good, I just don’t think they’re exceptional.
But it’s all a bit of a pointless exercise really as there’s no dictionary definition of ‘world class’ so we’ll all have our own take on it anyway.
Fair enough, this debate will always be about opinions as it is unquantifiable and meaningless really. I think we can all agree that Bale’s a bloody good player and I’m glad he’s ours!
For me its any player that can single handedly – and spectacularly – win matches for a ‘big club’ on a regular basis, and Bale is currently in that bracket – and doesn’t look like slipping out of it any time soon.
Add Shit for brains Savage to that list,Welsh people eh?
Without trying to sound like a moaning ninny,it does surprise me how many so called football pundits seem a bit threatened by the possibility that Tottenham may be progressing to become a top side. Most of them still can’t get over the fact that their beloved Liverpool are taking a bit of a nose dive.Still we must be doing somethind right to get their attention.
No im with Harry on this one. Yes Harry got on his back last year about the whole on stay on the left thing…well, to be honest, we didnt need him to play central last year…we had those players…but we do now, and as it turns out, hes very good at it. BUT, hes not consistant enough! When hes on, hes amazing and pulls out world class play, but hes not world class. Gomes would occasionally pull off world class saves…then let in a howler. If Bale carries on improving as he is theres no doubt he’ll be world class but right now…hes just ‘Triffic’
I hate this world class debate
The Internet is fast becoming a vile and unpleasant place where the same old garbage just get recycled around and around and around and around and around and around……….
The Internet has ALREADY become everything you say. There is little original left to say. Theboyhotspur keeps our attention by bringing humor and creative perspective to “news” that we already know.
……and don’t even get me started on pop ups!
It’s really getting to me how quickly every pundit has been jumping on this bandwagon saying bale must leave Spurs to fulfil his potential. Merson was one of the first at it on Saturday before the game and now every has been and his kid brother has an opinion. At least Ian Rush cautioned against the move. Would be a dream to see a proper striker brought in and team built around Bale to actually challenge for 1st rather than 4th place. Looking at how poor United have been at times and the number of mediocrplayers in their team I don’t see why not.
We’ve already got a “proper” striker, trouble is he doesn’t always want to play. When he does, he “can be” world class.
He’s in brilliant form but I don’t think he’s World class yet either but I guess it depends how you define it and that depends from person to person. Pundits like to use it as a lazy praise and some say it means they could get into any side in the World which means they’re the best in their position in the World, Lawro would say it means they’re nearly as good as Suarez(but he says a lot of things) and Holloway recently claimed that Watford had filled their team with World class players on loan from Udinese.
If Bale is still performing at this level in 6 months time then we can start talking about him being World class but he wasn’t exceptional at the start of this season so lets not go too overboard now he’s in some excellent form.
Yes, I’m quite 2nd class and have even traveled on a steam train 3rd class, so that probably disqualifies me from commenting on whether somebody is world class or not.
Your top class mate
Here here.
You’re in a class of your own BC.
savage, hartson and all the c**ts on talkshit are starting to drive doolally, its a constant ploy to unsettle both the boy bale and the mighty spurs, i think the haters have looked like nerks following the consistant improvement of the ginger ninja and have to find an outlet for their anti spurs bile.
my”punch in the street” top five has nobby savage ahead of ed miliband, now that cant be right. still ed bowls is still holding the number 1 spot and i cant see anybody changing that. coys
Who knows how good Baler could be with service from the likes of Inesta & Xavi, on his day he is by far the most exciting player in the Premier League, thank God he’s ours. We need to see MOTM performances week-in, week-out to elevate him to Tottenham Legend Status, let that be the Focus and let’s not get carried away on a couple of recent games, he’s Good, very Good but not Great yet. Next you’ll be telling me Holtby is the new Van Der Vaart !
This debate is nonsense, since apparently there are only 2 world class players that exist in the whole world. OK, by those definitions, I doubt Bale will ever be ‘world class’. By mine and most normal people, he already is.
Your definition of World Class clearly differs from mine, there can only be 11 world class players, the 11 voted as such at the end of the season in Europe & South America. Consistency throughout the season is essential, where was Bale against Wigan and Stoke ? and about 6 other games so far this season ?
Again, reason vs emotional investment.
Are all the non-spurs pundits who deem Bale to be world class emotionally bias too?
Reports say he’s valued at 50m. Would you sell him for less? Would seem quite a lot of money for someone who wasn’t world class, eh?
The Pundits have to sell papers, fill interviews with Talksport, Sky, BBC etc, it’s in their interests to elevate players as it fills column inches and they get paid more brass.
Bale Today
RVP Tomorrow
Suarez Thursday
Jenas Friday
I agree his world class and for me there are probably 15 or so players at the moment i would also consider world class just my opinion.
Can you tell me any ‘world class’ player (aside from Messi) who doesn’t ever have comparatively quieter games by their own standard?
Can you tell me any other player who gets the service that Messi does, (from Inesta, Xavi, Fabregas et al).
Double edged sword that argument. Bale gets his supply from Benny, Scotty, Dembele and Da Dump. Imagine how more consistent he’s be in a team with players of that ilk. Unless you’re actually arguing that Messi isn’t really that good really, just had good service?
And further, it is precisely Messi’s consistent ability to rise above his team mates and opposition and provide game winning moments entirely on his own which makes him world class. Bale has been doing something similar recently, even if he first gave us glimpses of that against Inter etc
Exactly and what has he done in the 2 years since skinning Maicon ?
Quite a lot. Have you been watching Spurs and/or Wales?
He hasn’t exactly filled the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run !
Nice article, couldnt agree more about Holtby. Surprised to see him go off against Newcastle but in the end the result is what mattered. I personally think Bale will be at the Lane next season, I hope for many more after but will def hang my hat on him being there next year.
Hope we use this semi-break wisely, we really need to get as many points as possible in march to set us up for the start of april. Hopefully Defoe will be back and this pelvic problem wil have had time to settle whilst his ankle heals.
COYS
What a load of shite,if the man could walk in to a team like barca real, with all there stars,,,,,well he is world class, and if the spurs are not playing well, most of you are saying why didnt bale do his stuff. So real play crap and so does ron he is still class, going now have a bit of jewellery to sell, any takers
RATNERS would be interested in Defoe’s hip-hop bling. Diamond encrusted crucifix that turns your neck green.
I would take the advice of scoring machine Ian Rush over welsh gobshite gobbie Savage. The welsh Curtis Stigers is only a pundit due to the premier league ‘harbouring’ a welsh team. Token pundit with the charm of a Hyena.
I know Modric was a great player for us but have we suffered that much without him? We suffer more from being undermined by people who seem to despise our great club. I’d rather see players leave than leaving us in limbo where every man and his dog be-little Spurs by claiming Peterborough have more chance of silverware than us.
We don’t suffer because only a fool would listen to that tripe, do you think AVB or Levy or any of us real supporters listen to the pundits ?
Morning Razspur, enjoyed our chat last night. My point was that, as most of you soap dodgers appear to “watch” each game on the wireless, a dodgy stream from Ulan Bator, on 101 Goals highlights, or vicariously from someone who went to the bloody thing, being able to tape it in full and watch it over again gives you a better idea of what actually happened.
As it happens, in MY OPINION, Harry H got it right when he said Walker was shite and Parker good. End of. May I ask where you’ll be watching Thursday’s game. Through a hole in the WHL fence? I look forward to your detailed, expert analysis.
Seems like a nice boy…
Yes,and very polite for a dingo.
We do get live TV in the UK nowdays, Sats match was Live on Sky and Thurs match is on the ITV network.
Why would you watch the WBA game “4 or 5 times” are you slow on the uptake ?
And “Soap Dodgers” coming from our Aussie convicts, sorry, cousins is not worthy of a reply.
I note you didn’t answer my question about the Australian Drugs Cheats or do you need to read it 4 or 5 times ?
Drug cheats? Yawn. Always have been, always will be, especially in the power sports like rugby league. Not so much in soccer, I would think. The issue is not drug cheats, it’s match fixing, which is not just a cricket and soccer disease. Something will unfold down here, but I doubt it will be in the Lance Armstrong class of disgrace.
But back to little Bonzo, what in earth did he do against the Barcodes that caught your eye? His most significant contributions were (a) the ball to Dempsey that produced the free kick, and (b) not taking said free kick. Did I miss something? He’s been our worst player all season, comfortably. He makes me yearn for Corluka.
Australians are passionate about their sport, i’ve been there 7 times, Melbourne, Phillip Island etc. there’s a converted garage off the Princess Highway near Dandenong that is now a Spurs Club, hope to return this Christmas, ex wife’s family all live there.
Live 15 minutes from there and never knew. Thanks
More fool you Raz. Not every GREAT fan like yourself can pass judgement. You are by far superior. All hail the gambler. Don’t you think that all this talk is detrimental to our club??? Or are you comfortable in Spurs being hailed a one man club constantly.
Our efforts are in vain if every media site carries the Tagline ‘Bale saves Spurs’ your deluded Raz and shouldn’t you be outside ladbrokes chain smoking roll-ups after youv’e frittered away your missus rent money. Your opinion my opinion.
I’m on this blog roughly 20 minutes a day. You seem to be on here an awful lot young man. sad & cad springs to mind. Go outside and get some fresh air.hahaha calm down, calm down, its only a Spurs blog..
Sites full of sad faggots. ashamed to be Spurs fan listening to (most) of you re-hash the same comments over and over and over and…….Try getting some fresh air. Or get laid. or just go have a wank. I shall not darken this site again. My comments are taken out of context far too many times. Childish virgins. My girlfriend moans at me when i post two comments. I’m sure some of your mums are telling you to go make some ‘real’ friends on ‘the outside’….moderate that fat boy.
What’s Stu short for then ?
Glad he’s gone there, it was all about to Kick Off, his parents didn’t do him any favours calling him Stu, hope he doesn’t get to see the birth certificate, no wonder he has issues.
Didn’t Johnny Cash have a hit with the song “A boy named Stu.”
Have you been drinking Razspur’s WKD
It’s all kicking off!!!
Stupendous Stuarts soul is sacred. Raz as in Razzle? W****r
This is like a Jimmy Cagney death scene.
You said you wouldn’t darken the Blog again, Liar.
Is he gone yet ? Tossing asparagus sorry aspersions at me, we don’t need that sort of aggro on the Blog. The problem is you’re not allowed to lay a hand on them these days.
Casting nasturtiums, he was.
All we need is some yank to come on saying “Dumpster was Man of The Match.”
Wasn’t he?
Tonights tipple is a Cabernet Shiraz from Nottage Hill, South Eastern Australia, a Hardy’s full bodied dry red wine. First glass is rough but if i want to be the next Pope, i’ll have to suffer.
I’m on some Jim Barry Lodge Hill that goes down a treat
Shiraz or Reisling ? You must have a rather discerning palette or perhaps it’s a special occasion.
Shiraz and there is nothing discerning about my palette I assure you
Balance:
Wolf Blass Cabernet or Shiraz
Stoneleigh Savingnon blanc (NZ)
Pinor Noir many from Oregon
Top of the line Chateau Margaux 1992 or a good Pommerol\
Stu,
I want you to know that I am appalled that you have been treated in such an unfounded and cheap manner.
Are you able to upload any snaps of the poor sow you’re dating so we can all have a proper laugh?
Talk Detrimental to our Club, Press, pundits and the public will always talk if not with ref to Bale then someone else, it’s the nature of the beast. If they want to call us a “One Man Club” so be it, we know better and should just rise above it.
The only thing i see as delusional is your take on Gambling/Gamblers, a very stereotypical view and set in the 60′s, todays punter has ipad, iphone and direct account access to 24/7 World Wide betting markets a far cry from the seedy picture you paint.
Making assumptions is all very well, we are all guilty to some extent but when you commit them to Cyberspace at least try to get the basic facts right and remember this :
Better to say nothing and be thought of as a fool than to speak out and confirm it. (Lincoln).
Weird what you say about todays gambler. You learn something new everyday. All I can say is that the punters in my local Paddy Power are hiding it well. Iphone, Ipad, direct access to 24/7 betting markets? All I can see is a scrap of paper, small blue pen and direct access to witherspoons.
There is a world of difference between the High Street Shop and the online markets.
The High Street shop is to fleece the average punter, give them just the basic info reqd to place a punt, much better odds can be gleaned online, shop specials, lock – ins etc are for mugs.
Why would any serious punter go into a betting shop except to obtain a midweek or weekend coupon, there’s that constant noise of idiots dropping pound coins into slot machines, that’s not gambling that’s stupidity, especially when we all know that the machines are fixed to only pay out a small percentage of the intake.
Why do you think some Bookies will give you a 20% bonus for a 5 team accumulator, to get you to add another team therfore reducing your chances of a win by more than 50%.
Nothing wrong with the high street shop, its the only way I bet,Its good to touch and see the money your losing and winning. Not having an account makes it that bit harder to bet and I am sure has saved me a few bob.
Nah, doing it at home with an iPad is much classier. Plus you can save money at wetherspoons by getting your high strength gear from the offie. And save money at Greggs by buying value packs of pasties and heating them in your own oven. You can also smoke as many Rothmans as you like. You’re right, cant see why any of those losers bother with the high street outlets.
It’s a bit difficult to keep up with the Kitco updates in a Bookies Shop.
With the current Fluctuations in the Precious Metals markets one needs to be appraised regularly (virtually every minute) only a fool would deal at yesterdays NYSE closing price, it has already dropped 0.02% since opening this morning. Don’t worry LLL i don’t expect you to grasp it.
Yep, and what’s more, at home you don’t even have to get dressed properly. You can just roll out of bed and start betting in your pants.
Is there a Fund for your Mum, God that poor Woman must have suffered.
Is he one of the best players in the world right now? Yes. Is he the best player in his country, or even in the whole of Britain? Yes, easily. Would he walk into the best club sides in world football? Yes. But he’s not world class? Okay.
C’mon he’s rubbish. All he does is kick it and run after it. He’s got no right foot and looks like a monkey. World class, my arse.
He wins games from us single handed. For me at this level thats world class.
Personally think he is world class. The argument about consistency doesn’t really stand due to the fact that only Messi is consistently performing to the highest level (unless there is only one truly world class player). I believe if you put Bale into the Barca team he would consistently provide the goods.
Ultimately though its a bit of a wasted discussion as no one is right as an opinion isn’t factually correct.
I’m just bloody glad he’s ours!!!!
Reply to Razzler, in case he missed it what with penning his pithy witticisms:

Why repeat yourself, have you got a thing about repetition (watched it 4 or 5 times) i was answering your previous post.
Patience is a virtue.
I would say to be World class you have to make a side comprising the best 11 players in the World.
Who would you have playing Bales position instead of him ? Ronaldo maybe but if not, I struggle to think of anyone better.
It has been pointed put to me that i may have been slightly abrasive tonight towards Stu and Sydyid, please accept my apologies and be assured that in future i shall be much more tolerant towards idiots from the UK and Australia.
Stop it, Razzler, you’re making we sob like a big girl’s blouse. I look forward to your observations on Friday night.
The only part of the planet that does not accept that Bale is world class is the bit between your ears Harold.
A great and balanced argument, well done.
I thought so
Thank you
David Moyes said on MNF that Bale was not yet world class.
So the industry that LLL refers to is not yet aligned to that opinion.
Shock. Horror.
Call an enquiry.
What industry did I refer to?
the americans have the world series. debate
The important question here seems to be that seeing there is now something of a consensus that our Baler is world class, just what does that make his Holtbyness?
A square headed sausage eating Kraut
I thought we’d decided he was the Pope-in-waiting.
How do you get away with calling a game Football when it is basically a game with a ball that you run with and pass and catch with your hands.Rarely does a foot come in contact with the ball that is not even ball shaped but it spherical.
So you’re saying its hound be called American hand egg? Catchy!
IT is all in the eyes of the beholder. Pass through an area as a short cut most days and go past a dilapilated rusty never been painted since the first time old wheel less truck that sells breakfasts.more often than not someone is peeing up the side. It is called World famous Amos, anyone ever heard of it?
I have. And seen it. Never got a 99c corned beef and grits breakfast from there. Never peed up the side of it either.
is it world famous though?
So now you’re too ‘emotionally invested’ if you don’t agree with you and what has become mostly a dull little clique?
I seem to remember Levy using the same dumb reasoning when he failed miserably to grab the land at Stratford. Maybe it’s you who is too emotionally invested in your master.
…and ffs! It’s ‘hear, hear’ not ‘here’. How many more times?
Let’s see how dull we can make it…
Without the sky an airplane is a train.
Without some daylight,Gareth Bale is a regular player
He need a little bit of light and when there is he is world class
He is a world class winger 100% in any case
He is developing and could a world class player. His shot is fantastic from a dead ball or on the run.It is better than most but is it worlkd class? Not sure
He is a 50 miilion quid man.Does that make him world class? I think it must do
As far as Holtby goes Im quite amazed at the quality he has shown. He cost a million and a half and stroll, edinto the team and showed more class than Ive seen from anyone. His positioning,he great touches, his work ethic and a vision. Its early days but this could one of the best buys ever.
IWhen I watch Silva I see what he can do for Aguero and how they work together. Holtby looks to have the same type of vision and has talent too.
Bale most certainly is world class.
In the same way Hoddle and Gazza were world class.
Ronaldo and Messi we be viewed the same way as Pele, Cruff and Maradona are.
Bale not at that level yet but he will be. Probably not at Spurs though.
Dont think Bale will ever be on the level Messi and Ronaldo are but still think his world class.
What dies World Class actually mean?
A schoolroom full of everyone in the world. Mind you, you would need an awfully big room and a teacher the size of Talos, the bronze titan in Jason and the Argonauts.
Gargoyes are Us
gargoyles
Just look it up in the dictionary, Ron. You’ll see a picture of Lewis Holtby.
Many true words are said in jest by those that follow.I rarely follow except when Im answerng a post. But to be honest Kev Id rather ready some insight into whatever someone writes about or something really funny. When I have to scratch my head I realize that that what I read really wasnt meant for me but for the thousands that like to continue a joke that has been making the rounds for a while and is a bit stale.
Holtby might well be World Class or become it but right now I am thinking this is could be one of the greatest buys in the history of football,or not.Right now its closer to the former
The term World Class is overused and obviously subjective but to my mind if a team was selected choosing the best players on the planet for each position who would get in ahead of Bale? Messi and Ronaldo for sure but not many after them
The term World class is something that is often banded around by the likes of Alex Ferguson when he wishe’s to poach and/or undermine a team by inflating the ego of a teams danger man, giving them idea’s above thier station and loading them up with a self imporatance and a wanderlust that is unwarranted.
or not,but the bastard is clever
Bale is top quality, probably not consistant enough to be deemed world class but he is playing in the same era as Messi & Ronaldo. A very high standard has been set! He is still only one out of a handful of players who would get into any team in Europe from the Premiership. I’m a Spurs fan so of course i think he should stay at Spurs. However, if we fail to qualify for the champions league i’m pretty sure he will go. Looking at our fixtures in April we have Everton at home, Chelsea away, Man City at home and Wigan away. This will be a decisive period of the season for us. If we can keep our current form going and Bale/Ade/anyoneelsewhocanscoreagoal doesn’t get injured then i think we will be OK. I get why the club did not sign a striker in Jan. We lost money last season and we have no guarentee of CL income for next season. It’s prudent business.
AVB has been impressive so far and the press are finally off his back. I quite like the guy too. I really hope that he can steer us into the top 4/3 and prove what a fantastic coach he really is. Until the final day of the season there is no point speculating on what Bale might do… COYS
well said
I thought we had weaned AVB off the Crouching Tiger thing but i noticed on Saturday he had gone back to the old habit, Spurs Managers don’t slouch or croutch, they sit High and Acknowledge the Crowd, like our Cockrel Reigning Proud.
Reasons for: He’s shone in the EPL, CL and at International level. Has a wide set of skills.
Against: Not consistent or confident enough to earn a place in the World eleven.
He’s definitely a strong candidate! He has time on his side and the support of one of the finest clubs in the Premiership. He just needs to keep his head down, ignore the media hype and hone his abilities to a point where he is the finished article.
For me, a world class player is somebody like Henry. The guy made it look too easy.
How is Bale in every condition?
He is much better with space behind the back he is facing
even when its busy he occasionally gets through but for me needs tto show more or have players that can go one two with him as someone needs ro draw players too.
We have had times where stacked defences had thwarted us and times when he is deadly in an open field. We have to get the balance right and he will surelylook up there with the top players in the world. That means he adapts himself to all conditions
As Suarez, Maradona and Henry have demonstrated, the game is a hell of a lot easier to play if you’re allowed to use your hands.
Its not 1920.People try everything to get ahead and a hand nowadays. Its bad, really.
Thoseplayers have tremendous talent and should have stuck to that but the drive that gets them to where they need to go sometimes pushes out other things likemorals and ethics but with every roast beef you need to cut some of the fat off
Everyone has a cheeky lil cheat from time to time. Difference being is that World Class players don’t ‘rely’ on such tactics.
Does a world class player miss an open goal like he did against the Toon? He scored 2 already I know and I’m not berating him for the miss at all. But wouldn’t a “World Class” player complete the hat-trick when it’s offered on a plate?
Ah, now you are talking about a two footed World Class Player, they are an even rarer breed.

Well summed up B/Spur – or, he’s business class, not quite first class but way better than premium economy.
Yes!

Bale is “Business Class” Genius.
I seem to recall Messi missing a penalty that would have dumped the Chavs out of the European Cup last year. It can happen to the best of them.
World class, who gives a fuck really, its Schoolboy’s trying to sound like adults.I think Tottenham should start playing three games a week to stop fans debating the meaning of words or phrases.Any body got any pictures of dogs arses?
Its a weak news day
Man U and Real Madrid has lost its lustre
Its all about the leeks in Gareth Bales game now
A few weeks ago many on the Blog were citing Hooper as the answer to our Prayers, last night he couldn’t even deal with a few Italian arms waved about him, how on Earth could he have coped with the rough and tumble of Premier League Football.
Another name, another Tabloid Headline but nowhere near the quality required.
Ade needs to knuckle down.If he did, both he and us would be happier.
He should joke around and muck about only when we arrive at our destination. Then its funny.
Its a crucial position and we have few other choices now but also in the summer when other teams with splash the money needed.
Im not sure if I want to pray for Italy and Spain to go bankrupt for us to have a chanve at a top striker in the summer. Its a risky play.Better Ade makes good
Bale was head and shoulders above the rest on Saturday, what we need are the 9 other outfield players to raise their game by 15-20% for the next 3 months as the boy cannot carry us alone, we have the Talent, the question is Do we have the Desire ?
We may have the desire but sometimes we think we can win with the system or with strolling about but we need to turn the sesire into also a bigger effort with certain types of games.
When there is daylight for Bale (good name for a book?) he rips it and everyone gets juiced upbut when the defences are tighter we have to play more where a players draws a man and creates space where there isnt any for his teamates. In this past game we saw that.Thats where Holtby working with the groups in each area will work. But its really important to not let Bale be everything.
Our defence has held but at times have looked shaky.
The reason Ilike the way Holtby is playing is the creation or the shorter inside game that we have failed to have. Sigg has not done it.If we can more players will get free. Desire is important and belief is important and also the machanics too. The Norwich,West Broom and Leeds games should be looked at over and over to see what we generally were doing wrong. Its easy to see Bale running with impunity as what we are but we have to not only work harder all round but create other ways to get to their goal
The High Line defence scares me. I think good teams with wily quick players can beat it.
First of all you need the whole back line to not only be responsible for their markers but mostly their position in unison with each other.
Its difficult to mark and play the high line at the same time.
When you have the ball and you all move up thats fine. One bad move in midfield and you are dead.
When the other team has the ball you cant mark them and be ready to step up.As stepping up implied that you have a clear area in front of you.Thats not marking.
So there is a huge risk.
While you have the ball and are controlling it is fine.
Now we have not let in a lot of goals so something must be working.
I guess.
Care to elaborate?
What is working is Lloris coming off his line, commanding the 20 yds out – Goal line, that is superb, he is basically a sweeper at times. Yes we will be susceptible to well placed angled crosses until the back four get used to the new system, maintaining the line is paramount. Strange though that the player who could cause our defence most problems is on our side, thankfully Gareth plays for us.
True.
Don’t actually recall anyone saying Hooper was the answer to our prayers. Nope, cannae remember that.
Early onset Dementia.
