2:58 You Won’t Want Back

By The Boy -

‘Halcyon days’ barely begins to describe it.

Comparisons between just about everything in that clip, and what exists today – right down to the expressions on people’s faces – convinces me that the opening line of The Go-Between, “The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there”, is better than true.

Who was the slightly whacked out man made up as a clown, and what was the relevance of his monkey?

How come nobody was having a fit over the wrong colour blue being used in so much of the decorations?

Why were people so demonstrable, and in such obvious good cheer?

This brief clip benefits from no sound, it intensifies its other worldly quality.

It makes me smile, but it also makes me feel a little bit sad.
