The EU is totally out off control, munching its way through billions while it destroys the thing it was set up to create and protect. Its run its course and should be dismantled.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, through a spokesman, echoed that line when asked by Reuters if she had had recent contact on the matter with Rajoy, a fellow conservative. While stressing it was an “internal Spanish matter”, the spokesman also recalled that Merkel had in previous years told Rajoy that Berlin had “great interest in the maintenance of stability in Spain”.

    Freund or Foe
I don’t think the EU want Catalonia to leave Spain. I don’t think they had any part or influence in what happened yesterday, so I don’t get your connection.

The connection is very simple: The rulers and policy makers in Brussels are unelected.
The vote yesterday was suppressed by Martial Law and Police brutality.
The Greek people voted for a government that would implement a default which was also suppressed but that time without violence by the unelected diktats in Brussels……
Do you not see where this is going?

    • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 10:03 pm

No. I see no link between EU powers being unelected, and Spanish police brutality against the Catalonians. None, zip, ninguna.

      • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 10:24 pm

So the Irish had to vote how many times to ratify the Maastricht agreement?
        The Greeks voted for default.
The Hungarian prime minister was vilified by Brussels for saying that they faced a rebellion at the hands of migrants.
And yesterday Spain employed martial law to suppress a vote of independence, but Spain being in the EU doesn’t seem to register with you, and all the other problems that are right in front of us which are a result of the EU ?

        • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 10:29 pm

I should ask you, show me where the EU is democratic? They laughed at Nigel Farage years ago when he said he would get a referendum and the laughed at him when he said the people of Briton would vote to leave, they didn’t laugh at the result.

          • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 10:38 pm

I should ask you, show me where I’ve said the EU is democratic? Honestly mate, I’m up for a good debate, but you don’t seem to be getting my point. You’re argueing all sorts of nonsense against me as if I’m some the fixed left wing remaining idiot, watching BBC news, drooling. I’m not in any way denying that the EU is undemocratic, I think I may have mentioned that a few times already.

            • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 10:45 pm

It is the link between a pro EU spanish gov and the crackdown on a vote for independence, there is the link, surely you agree that the spain gov is pro EU, and that the EU is undemoctratic. For me it is obvious. Sorry if i came accross as having a pop, never at you buddy x

  • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 9:37 pm

    Castankerous1😠
I think RF’s comment above is spot on.

all of the policy makers in Brussels are non elected, if you don’t think that they have influence on this you are sadly mistaken my friend 👎

    • Castankerous1😠 October 2, 2017 at 9:38 pm

That’s just your opinion at this point.

      • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 9:48 pm

Is Juncker elected Cas? No he is not and he is the top guy at the min, nothing opinionated about that bit, sorry if the facts about the EU and its unelected diktats don’t fit the mainstream remainers vision but facts are facts.

        • gloster1861 October 2, 2017 at 9:55 pm

The EU hierarchy resembles nothing less than a medieval privy council, who exercised sovereign authority on a day to day basis, on behalf of the monarch, or in this case, the Council of Ministers. In both cases, the parliament was just a talking shop which ratified decisions already made.

This continued in England until we had a sodding Civil War. Then Parliament at last gained power. Is that what it will take in Europe?

          • melcyid October 2, 2017 at 10:02 pm

probably and they want billion from Britain to possibly finance it

        • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 9:55 pm

You can’t pigeonhole people like that Sexy. Nobody here is disputing that the decision makers in the EU are unelected. Nobody here has said that it wasn’t Martial law. Nobody here has said that the EU don’t care if Catalonia leave Spain. I can only see people questioning you’re link between yesterday and the EU.

Can’t you see the connection between the EU and the suppression of Democracy? Its right in front of you!

                • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 10:22 pm

No. Both are suppressions of democracy, but they are not involved with each other.

    Barca could leave La Liga.
I don’t care, just thought I’d mention it.

The Catalans are not allowed to vote let alone leave Spain, Madrid is controlled by Brussels, martial law was imposed yesterday in Catalonia with police brutality against peacefull people just wanting to cast a vote!
Get me and the UK out of this Totalitairian hell that is the EU!

    • gloster1861 October 2, 2017 at 9:10 pm

I have to agree about the dead hand of the EU bureaucracy showing its true colours over the Catalans.

Some reckon that this crisis might see Barcelona try to launch the oft discussed Superleague.

      • Real Fan? ⚽️ October 2, 2017 at 9:12 pm

Why is this the EU’s fault? Spain does not want the Catalans to become independent as they provide a disproportionate amount of the country’s GDP. This argument is a lot older than the EU.

        • gloster1861 October 2, 2017 at 9:16 pm

They have come out and backed Madrid’s heavy handed tactics.

        • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 9:17 pm

Madrid’s strings are pulled in Brussells, it is not much different to the Greek people voting for default a few years back and the elected officials going against the people who voted for them and it, only that time they didn’t need the riot police.
For me this is a trial run to see if they can get away with this brutal suppression.

          • gloster1861 October 2, 2017 at 9:19 pm

Did you see that interview with a local Catalan official? He said the riot police were ordered to ensure there was violence.

            • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 9:23 pm

No, but i watched some clips and at no point did i see any violence against the police, their tatics were really quite clear. Martial law, even if only for a day.

              • gloster1861 October 2, 2017 at 9:25 pm

In the previous Catalan demonstrations, there has been no violence. Madrid allegedly decided they had to pay a price for their impudence this time.

          • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 9:21 pm

You’re insinuating that the EU made the Spanish put police on the street to beat up voters?? Really?

            • Sexy Beast October 2, 2017 at 9:24 pm

I never said that FoF, draw your own conclusions. You have seen the clips like we all have, if that is not Martial Law what is?

              • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 9:29 pm

I must have misheard. Yes, definitely Martial law. I don’t see what the EU have to do with it, these aren’t the strings they’re pulling.

                  • Freund or Foe October 2, 2017 at 9:37 pm

Sexy, read your post again. You’re apportioning blame on the EU, that’s what I’m questioning. If they haven’t condemned it then they’re fuckwits, doesn’t mean they had a hand in it.

                    • Castankerous1😠 October 2, 2017 at 9:38 pm

Authorising the police and their heavy handed tactics in Catalonia, along with the unrepentant comments of Mariano Rajoy Brey, will I suspect, only serve to inflame the situation, and possibly serve to galvanise the Catalans desire to push for independence all the more now.
