The silly season is well and truly upon us.

Spurs in particular have been and shall be linked with everyone this side of the Great Wall of China.

The sources for most of these tales and allegations will mostly be a pile of steaming horse manure so large that it too can be seen from outer space.

Yevhen Konoplyanka is a name you can strike a line through, rather than beneath.

His ownership issues are appallingly complicated to the point whereby if you wanted to get him out of the Ukraine, you’d need to send Liam Neeson in to get him out.

That said, I remain unconvinced that he’s much more than a Arshavin/Townsend hybrid.

To some that will sound like an intoxicating mix, but we need to build a football team, not stage a ‘who can stay on the ball the longest without falling down a hole‘ competition.

Another name doing the rounds is Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Currently plying his trade with PSG this chap is a World Cup winner!

However at 30 years of age and with a diminishing rate of return on his goalscoring (just 8 in 30 appearances this season in La Liga) he looks more like a horse that’s been put out to pasture.

talkSPORT and others have suggested that we’ve made enquiries.

If we did, my money is on them not having this year’s date on them.

Instead of Konoplyanka, our attentions might be better spent looking at Florian Thauvin.

At 23, this right sided midfielder might have more to offer.

He’s not a prolific goalscorer, rather a player who conceivably fit into a  young and hopefully vibrant Spurs side for next term.

Marseille are thought to want upwards of €20million for him which seems reasonable enough.

The only slight issue of course, is that Poch doesn’t appear to use wingers.

Ah…

Kevin Wimmer has been hailed a ‘done deal’ by the The Sunday People.

If true, it’s very difficult to get excited over a player we know little about and was so (comparatively) inexpensive.

He’s a left footed centre back, which raises the immediate question, ‘why the hell aren’t we actively looking for an upgrade on the lunatic Walker?’

Kev was quoted as saying:

It would be a dream to move to a top club like Tottenham. For me, the transfer is a big step, a step with which I can develop myself. That’s why I want to take the chance.

I’m not someone who wants to stop developing. That is why England would be the next step. I’m playing in Germany. This is pretty much the best league in the world.

English Premier League is the only one that can match that. For me, the English league would be a great challenge. There I can develop because it’s very demanding. I’m a fan of English football.’

One out of four ain’t bad.

Is it?
