?Stats – 7 Things Cardiff Flagged Up

By The Boy -

Spurs Should Have Scored More Goals.

Sometimes when you’re watching a game of such poorly quality, its easy to lose track of these things.

The xG (Expected Goals*) for this game was very high = 3.59.

In fact it hasn’t been anywhere approaching that high since we beat Girona 4-1 in the summer. *Here’s a decent explanation of how that’s calculated from the BBC.

Lucas Moura Was A Bit Rubbish

Lucas Moura failed – as he has done rather all too consistently – bar the Manchester United game, to take his chances.

The Brazilian took 5 shots, of which just 2 were on target.

Harry Winks Was Superb

A 93% passing accuracy set him to the top of the class.

More please.

Kieran Tripper Was A Mixed Bag

The Bury boy made more passes in the attacking third than any other Spurs player, and his accuracy was only mildly less than Winksy’s.

Trippier’s corners still suck however; only 2 out of the 5 he took were successful.

Additionally, he took 12 crosses and only 3 worked.

However Kieran won the ball back 7 times, only Eric Dier was better, recovering it 8 times.

Davinson Sanchez Was Pretty Immense Again

11 attempted and 11 successful clearances.

4 attempted and 4 successful headed clearances.

20 times he recovered the ball!

Losing The Ball Was An Issue

Rose and Trippier were the worst offenders.

Wonder boy Sanchez was lurking inelegantly in 4th place in this particular discipline.

Conclusion

Cardiff were very poor.

Add to this the injury problem and Spurs’ lack of quality becomes magnified.

Eriksen is missed and whilst so is Dele, we are still staring at a football team that is down to its bare bones.

Beyond the absentees, Son, Moura and Sissoko don’t do much – and many of the ones that do quite a bit (Rose, Trippier and Dier)  – don’t achieve very much.
